Medical Assistant (MA)
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant supports providers and clinical staff by performing administrative and clinical duties to ensure efficient patient care, excellent customer service, and compliance with practice standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Room patients and obtain vital signs (BP, pulse, temperature, height, weight, oxygen saturation)
- Document chief complaint and update patient history
- Reconcile medications and allergies
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
- Assist providers during examinations and minor procedures
- Administer injections, immunizations, and medications as delegated and permitted by state law
- Perform EKGs, spirometry, hearing tests, vision screenings, and other diagnostic testing
- Collect specimens and prepare for laboratory processing
Clinical Documentation
- Accurately document patient information in the EMR
- Process provider orders
- Complete referrals and authorizations as directed
- Review and manage patient messages and clinical tasks
- Assist with quality measures and value-based care initiatives
Patient Communication
- Return patient phone calls and portal messages
- Provide patient education and follow-up instructions
- Schedule diagnostic testing and specialty referrals
- Excellent Customer Service Skills
- Coordinate care transitions and hospital follow-up appointments
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain exam room cleanliness and stocking
- Monitor inventory and supply levels
- Ensure proper vaccine and medication storage
- Participate in daily huddles and team meetings
- Support practice quality improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, CCMA)
- CPR certification
- EMR experience
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
Preferred
- Primary care experience
- eClinicalWorks experience
- Knowledge of Medicare wellness visits and preventive care
- Experience with value-based care programs
