Job description

As a Forklift Supervisor, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently overseeing forklift and material-handling operations while also supervising the cleaning team. Your role is crucial in maintaining a safe, organized, and productive facility by coordinating material movement, ensuring proper equipment operation, and directing cleaning staff to meet established cleanliness and safety standards. You will provide leadership, monitor work performance, and help ensure daily operational and cleaning responsibilities are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
Responsibilities:
  • Safely operate a forklift in accordance with all company safety guidelines, OSHA requirements, and established procedures.
  • Conduct and document pre-operational forklift inspections to ensure equipment is in safe working condition.
  • Follow designated traffic patterns, speed limits, pedestrian pathways, and facility safety procedures.
  • Safely load, unload, transport, stack, and organize materials and products throughout the facility.
  • Ensure materials are stored safely and efficiently to maximize available space and maintain an organized work environment.
  • Monitor material movement and coordinate forklift activities to support daily operational needs and workflow.
  • Assist with inventory management, including counting, cycle counts, documentation, and reporting discrepancies.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage or discrepancies and communicate issues to the appropriate supervisor or management.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and material-handling records using computerized systems or manual documentation.
  • Perform routine forklift care, including cleaning, fluid checks, and other basic maintenance as required.
  • Immediately report equipment damage, mechanical problems, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns.
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of cleaning/janitorial employees, ensuring assigned areas are properly maintained and cleaned according to company and client standards.
  • Assign cleaning duties, establish priorities, and monitor employees to ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Conduct routine inspections of assigned areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and quality standards are consistently maintained.
  • Train, coach, and provide direction to cleaning employees regarding proper cleaning methods, equipment use, safety procedures, and workplace expectations.
  • Monitor employee attendance, productivity, work quality, and adherence to assigned schedules.
  • Address performance or attendance concerns promptly and communicate significant issues to management.
  • Ensure cleaners have the necessary supplies, equipment, and materials to complete their assignments.
  • Coordinate cleaning activities around forklift and material-handling operations to maintain a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Ensure employees follow all required PPE, safety, chemical-handling, and facility procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, including storage areas, equipment areas, and assigned cleaning spaces.
  • Communicate effectively with management, employees, customers, and other team members to coordinate operations and resolve issues.
  • Assist with staffing coverage and reassign duties when necessary to maintain productivity and service levels.
  • Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, safety awareness, and strong work ethic.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to meet operational goals, production targets, and cleaning requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid forklift operator certification/license.
  • Proven experience operating a forklift in a warehouse, distribution center, or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of forklift safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals.
  • Physical strength and stamina to lift heavy objects and work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:
Applicants for this role must be able to:
  • Lift, bend, squat, and stretch to move boxes, parcels, and shipments
  • Climb small to medium flights of stairs multiple times a day
  • Standing for extended periods of time
  • Approximately equal amount of time sitting and walking
  • Requires ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods
  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone and walkie-talkie
  • Close visual work on a computer terminal
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments
