What is foreign military sales?

Foreign Military Sales (FMS) is a program run by the U.S. government that facilitates the sale of defense articles, services, and training to foreign governments and international organizations. Managed by the Department of Defense, FMS allows approved countries to purchase U.S. military equipment and support through government-to-government agreements. The program ensures that transactions comply with U.S. laws and policies, and helps strengthen alliances and promote global security. FMS includes everything from initial negotiations to delivery, training, and ongoing support.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in foreign military sales, and how can they be effectively managed?

Successfully addressing these issues requires staying updated on evolving policies, maintaining meticulous documentation, and developing strong relationships with both governmental and foreign counterparts. Collaboration with legal, compliance, and logistics teams is essential to anticipate potential roadblocks and deliver solutions that meet both client and regulatory expectations.
