Job Description:
The Assistant Football Coach / Football Strength amp; Conditioning Coach will assist with the management of the Augustana football program and be responsible for the strength and conditioning work with the football student-athletes. The position involves working directly with the athletic training staff to design and implement training programs to help optimize conditioning, injury prevention and overall physical and mental wellness. Duties includes monitoring training sessions and tracking progress. This position is responsible for assisting in the overall management of the College's football program, with a specific focus on working with the team's receivers. Duties include coaching, recruitment and retention of student-athletes, scheduling and budget management, equipment ordering, viable fundraising, public relations and other duties.
Job Title: Assistant Football Coach / Football Strength amp; Conditioning Coach
Status: Exempt, Full-time 10 month position who works an Academic year schedule
Reports To: Director of Athletics
Job Duties:
• Design and implement strength and conditioning programs in-season, off-season, and pre-season for the football program in accordance with NSCA Strength and Conditioning Professional Standards guidelines.
• Monitor and teach proper techniques for strength conditioning.
• Reduce the likelihood of sports-related injuries or aggravation of existing injuries during practice sessions and/or scheduled contests.
• Meet Augustana College, NCAA and CCIW regulations and obligations, including operating budget and fiscal responsibilities.
• Evaluate and prioritize weight room strength and cardio equipment needs.
• If available, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time, graduate assistant, and/or volunteer strength and conditioning assistants.
• Work collaboratively with the Head Football Coach to conduct and evaluate practice activities for designated team
members. Provide group and individual assistance in a manner that engages the student-athletes and builds
commitment to the program.
• Work collaboratively with the Head Football Coach to integrate efforts and create program success. Assist other staff members with activities as needed to reach the goals of the team.
• Meet with prospective students and their family members both on campus and at remote locations. Provide advice and counsel on the admissions process, the Augustana experience and the integral role of the student-athlete in overall campus life.
• Align and promote the core principals and standards of the program at all times.
• Provide general counsel, guidance, and inspiration to students regarding their overall success, particularly including utilizing new student orientation activities, career services, academic success programs, living successfully in the residence halls and behaving within the College's student conduct expectations.
• Promote good sportsmanship.
• Assist, as needed, in developing positive alumni relations and fundraising efforts to support a competitive NCAA Division Ill athletics program.
• Assist with facility maintenance and equipment upkeep to ensure a clean, safe, and functional training environment.
• Perform additional departmental administrative duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Demonstrate community involvement with active leadership as a positive role model and encouragement of student-athlete participation in mentoring or other service programs.
Requirements:
Education: Bachelor's degree required and master’s degree preferred with an emphasis in exercise science, exercise physiology, or physical education or a related field. Current relevant professional certification by an independent agency such as the NSCA Certified Strength amp; Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certificate.
Skills amp; Experience:
• Previous experience with development and management of strength training programs at the college level preferred.
• Current standard first aid, CPR and AED certifications.
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and CCIW policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills, including effective verbal and written abilities.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Strong motivational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
• Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty and coaches.
• Ability to positively influence public relations between the Athletics Department, the campus and the Quad Cities community.
• Computer and database skills necessary.
Work Hours amp; Travel: This position requires travel to athletic and recruiting events as required. Travel to NCAA and/or CCIW meetings and/or professional development workshops may be required.
Physical Requirements: This position is located on campus and works in a traditional office environment. The below requirements are expected:
Work environment includes both indoors and outdoors, exposure to various weather conditions, including temperature extremes. Indoor air environments may not be air conditioned during hot weather. Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, climb stairs, run, twist, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must be able to use a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks.
Special Requirements: As key personnel representing the College, this position requires excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to relate to a diverse population, and the ability and willingness to model the mission and high standard of behavior of Augustana College. Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check.
Additional Information:
Pay and Benefits: This position is budgeted to pay between $33,000-$35,000 based on experience.
