Job description

GD Resources LLC is seeking qualified Food Service Workers to support Nutrition and Food Services operations at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).

The selected candidates will assist with daily food service operations, including meal tray assembly, delivery of meals to patient areas, dishwashing, cleaning, sanitation, and storage of food and supplies. Candidates must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare food service environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold a current ServSafe Food Handler Certification.
  • Be able to safely perform food service, sanitation, and meal delivery duties.
  • Be able to follow patient tray tickets, menus, portion requirements, and established food service procedures.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Be available to work assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Be able to perform physical duties associated with food service operations, including standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing carts, bending, reaching, and repetitive tasks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assemble patient meal trays according to tray tickets, menus, established portions, and service procedures.
  • Place food and service items on trays, including entrees, meats, potatoes, vegetables, salads, desserts, beverages, condiments, tray ware, and serving utensils.
  • Ensure trays contain the correct items before delivery.
  • Deliver meal trays to patient wards, dining rooms, and designated areas.
  • Break down, clean, and sanitize tray lines after meal service.
  • Perform dish room duties, including scraping trays, sorting and stacking tray ware, loading dish machines, and removing clean tray ware.
  • Clean and properly store pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in food preparation, serving, dishwashing, and storage areas.
  • Receive and properly store food deliveries and supplies.
  • Place food and supplies in designated walk-in refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas.
  • Follow established food safety, sanitation, infection control, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Perform additional related food service duties as assigned.
Work Schedule

Nutrition and Food Services operates seven days per week, 365 days per year.

Potential shifts include:

  • 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM
  • 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
  • 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
  • 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM

Schedules are generally provided at least two weeks in advance.
