HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • The Fire Safety Manager serves within the Office of Emergency Management to provide assistance in making sure that all University buildings are fire code compliant.
  • Assignments will generally fall into one of the following groupings, although overlapping of duties may occur as needed:
  • Coordinate and monitor inspections, testing, and servicing of fire alarm, sprinkler, fire extinguisher (10,000+ units), FM200, fire hydrant, and hood systems.
  • Review, file, and maintain all inspection reports to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Identify deficiencies, obtain repair quotes, and coordinate timely corrective actions.
  • Manage all sprinkler system repairs and ensure system readiness across campus.
  • Maintain working knowledge of fire safety technologies, codes, laws, and regulatory requirements. Process payments for all fire and life safety-related inspections and services.
  • Supervise and direct daily activities of Fire Alarm Technicians (including Senior) and the Fire Safety Officer. Provide leadership, training, and performance oversight to ensure efficient and compliant operations.
  • Assign work, monitor productivity, and ensure adherence to safety standards and procedures.
  • Escort contractors and inspectors during site visits, inspections, and service repairs.
  • Review invoices for accuracy, verifying the scope of work, quantities, and completion of services.
  • Process payments for all fire and life safety-related inspections and services.
  • Coordinate biannual hood system inspections for all commercial kitchens and ensure proper documentation and communication with departments.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain building evacuation plans for all facilities, ensuring accessibility for individuals with disabilities and high-occupancy considerations.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and document fire drills across all campuses in compliance with fire code requirements.
  • Attend and oversee fire drills, including evening housing drills each semester.
  • Participate in campus safety initiatives and emergency preparedness planning.
  • Maintain a current working knowledge.
  • Respond to fire alarms, incidents, and trouble calls during business hours.
  • Monitor university radio communications for real-time incident updates.
  • Conduct fire scene investigations in coordination with fire and police departments to determine origin and cause.
  • Document all incidents and ensure proper reporting and follow-up actions.
  • Review building plans and conduct walkthroughs prior to facility openings and special events to ensure fire and life safety compliance.
  • Attend campus events as needed to monitor safety conditions before and during occupancy.
  • Serve as an active member of the Laboratory Safety Committee, attending meetings twice per month. Communicate inspection results and safety concerns to department managers and stakeholders.
  • Perform other fire safety and emergency management responsibilities as assigned by the Director.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $60,600 - $90,900. Salary offers will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications in relation to the Minimum Hiring Standards. Candidates earlier in their careers are typically offered salaries closer to the minimum of the hiring range, while those with more advanced or relevant experience may be considered for compensation at or above the hiring range.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree Fire Science, Occupational Health or related field and five years safety and prevention experience; or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of fire safety technology, the governing laws, and regulations in the fire safety industry.
  • Knowledge of the Georgia Fire Code and regulations and fire safety practices.
  • Knowledge of computer operations, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Supervisory skills in Fire Safety Project Management.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
