Quality & Safety Manager

The Quality & Safety Manager will be responsible for leading Wesley Intl.’s quality management, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives. A primary responsibility of this position is to lead the company’s effort to develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) and successfully prepare the organization for ISO 9001 certification.

This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for establishing effective quality and safety processes, developing companywide SOPs and Work Instructions (WIs), conducting audits, identifying and resolving process deficiencies, implementing corrective and preventive actions, and ensuring employees consistently follow established requirements.

The Quality & Safety Manager will work closely with executive leadership, department heads, engineering, operations, production, warehouse, and other functions to establish accountability for quality and safety throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

1. ISO 9001 Quality Management System

• Lead Wesley Intl.’s initiative to develop, implement, and sustain an ISO 9001-compliant Quality Management System.
• Develop and manage a detailed roadmap and implementation plan for obtaining ISO 9001 certification.
• Conduct a comprehensive gap analysis of existing processes, documentation, records, and controls against ISO 9001 requirements.
• Develop, implement, and maintain QMS policies, procedures, processes, and supporting documentation.
• Establish quality objectives, performance metrics, and monitoring systems.
• Coordinate the company’s ISO 9001 certification application and preparation activities.
• Serve as the primary company contact for ISO certification bodies, external auditors, and ISO-related activities.
• Prepare the organization for certification, surveillance, and recertification audits.
• Ensure audit findings and nonconformities are properly investigated, documented, corrected, and closed.

2. Quality Assurance & Quality Control

• Establish and maintain effective quality assurance and quality control processes throughout the organization.
• Monitor product and process quality to identify trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for improvement.
• Establish standards for inspection, testing, verification, and documentation.
• Work with department leaders to identify root causes of quality issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Monitor customer complaints, warranty issues, defects, rework, scrap, and other quality indicators.
• Develop and maintain quality metrics and provide regular reports to leadership.
• Ensure quality issues are addressed before products are released or shipped when applicable.
• Promote a culture of accountability, prevention, and continuous improvement rather than relying solely on corrective action after problems occur.

3. Corrective & Preventive Action

• Establish and manage the company’s Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process.
• Investigate quality and process failures using appropriate root-cause analysis methodologies.
• Ensure corrective actions are assigned, documented, implemented, and completed within established deadlines.
• Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions after implementation.
• Identify recurring issues and develop preventive measures to eliminate systemic problems.
• Maintain appropriate records of nonconformances, investigations, corrective actions, and preventive actions.

4. SOP & Work Instruction Management

• Establish a companywide system for creating, approving, controlling, distributing, revising, and archiving SOPs and Work Instructions.
• Work with department heads to identify all SOPs and WIs required for their respective departments.
• Develop standardized formats and documentation requirements for SOPs and WIs.
• Oversee department heads and subject-matter experts in the development and completion of required documentation.
• Review SOPs and WIs for completeness, accuracy, clarity, compliance, and effectiveness.
• Ensure only current, approved versions of controlled documents are available for use.
• Establish a controlled document archive and maintain appropriate revision history.
• Periodically review SOPs and WIs to ensure they remain accurate and effective.
• Identify gaps where documented procedures are missing or do not adequately control the process.

5. Training & Compliance

• Develop and implement training programs related to quality, safety, SOPs, WIs, and compliance requirements.
• Ensure employees receive appropriate training when new or revised procedures are implemented.
• Maintain training and competency records associated with quality and safety requirements.
• Work with department heads to identify training needs and competency gaps.
• Audit employee adherence to established SOPs, WIs, quality requirements, and safety procedures.
• Identify training deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions.
• Promote employee understanding of how individual responsibilities affect product quality, customer satisfaction, safety, and company performance.

6. Internal Audits & Process Auditing

• Develop and maintain an internal audit program aligned with ISO 9001 requirements.
• Conduct internal audits of departments, processes, documentation, and records.
• Audit compliance with SOPs, WIs, QMS requirements, and established company processes.
• Evaluate whether documented procedures are actually being followed in practice.
• Identify process weaknesses, inconsistencies, inefficiencies, and compliance gaps.
• Document audit findings and ensure responsible departments establish corrective actions.
• Follow up on findings to verify timely and effective resolution.
• Use audit results to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

7. Safety Management

• Lead the company’s workplace safety initiatives and promote a strong safety culture.
• Establish and maintain safety procedures, policies, and work practices appropriate for company operations.
• Conduct or coordinate workplace safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
• Work with management and employees to address unsafe conditions and behaviors.
• Support incident and accident investigations and ensure appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
• Maintain appropriate safety documentation and records.
• Coordinate required safety training and ensure employee training is documented.
• Monitor applicable OSHA and other workplace safety requirements.
• Assist leadership in maintaining compliance with applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Promote proactive hazard identification and prevention throughout the organization.

8. Regulatory & Compliance Management

• Monitor applicable quality, safety, regulatory, and industry requirements.
• Identify changes in regulations and standards that may affect Wesley Intl.
• Evaluate company processes for compliance and recommend necessary changes.
• Maintain appropriate compliance documentation and records.
• Support regulatory inspections, customer audits, certification audits, and other external assessments.
• Ensure identified compliance gaps are addressed promptly and effectively.

9. Continuous Improvement

• Lead continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve quality, safety, efficiency, and operational performance.
• Identify process bottlenecks, recurring failures, waste, and opportunities for improvement.
• Use data, audits, employee feedback, customer feedback, and performance metrics to prioritize improvement initiatives.
• Partner with department heads to develop measurable improvement plans.
• Track improvement initiatives through completion and verify results.
• Promote standardization and process discipline across the organization.

10. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with executive leadership and department heads to establish companywide quality and safety accountability.
• Provide guidance and support to employees responsible for quality, safety, documentation, inspection, and compliance activities.
• Establish clear ownership and deadlines for quality and safety initiatives.
• Hold departments accountable for completing required corrective actions, documentation, training, and process improvements.
• Communicate quality and safety concerns promptly to leadership.
• Develop a culture in which quality and safety are the responsibility of every employee.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Safety, Business, or a related field preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in quality, safety, manufacturing, compliance, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience developing or managing a Quality Management System.
• Strong knowledge of ISO 9001 requirements and quality management principles.
• Experience conducting internal audits and supporting external certification or customer audits.
• Experience developing SOPs, Work Instructions, forms, records, and controlled documentation.
• Experience with corrective action, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and workplace safety requirements.
• Strong organizational, analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating across departments.
• Strong leadership and project-management capabilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic document management systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• ISO 9001 Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification.
• Experience leading an organization through initial ISO 9001 certification.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with OSHA compliance and workplace safety programs.
• Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite.
• Experience developing companywide quality and safety metrics.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with supplier quality, customer quality requirements, warranty, or nonconformance management.

Position Expectations

The Quality & Safety Manager is expected to be a hands-on leader who actively identifies problems, establishes solutions, follows through on corrective actions, and holds departments accountable for compliance and performance. This position is not limited to maintaining documentation; it is responsible for ensuring that Wesley Intl.’s quality and safety systems are implemented effectively in day-to-day operations and continuously improved.
