Job description

Position Summary:

South Country Co-op is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Food Clerk to join our team at Vauxhall Food Store in Vauxhall, AB. If you're passionate about providing exceptional customer experiences, we'd love to hear from you!

Reporting to the Store Manager, the Food Clerk is responsible for preparing a variety of deli foods, including meats, salads, pizzas, and sandwiches, while providing an exceptional customer service experience. This role supports the overall operation of the deli department by maintaining product freshness, proper merchandising, and ensuring high standards of cleanliness and food safety.

In addition, this position supports the Bakery department by baking pre-made buns and pastries and ordering bakery products to ensure displays remain well stocked and visually appealing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding service to customers in a prompt and friendly manner
  • Prepare deli items such as salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and specialty meats
  • Stock, rotate, and merchandise deli and bakery products to ensure quality and freshness
  • Bake pre-made buns and pastries and ensure bakery displays are well stocked and properly presented
  • Order bakery products as required to maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety
  • Operate deli tools and equipment safely and efficiently
  • Assist with product ordering and inventory control
  • Follow proper handling, preparation, and storage protocols
  • Work collaboratively as part of a diverse and multi-generational team
  • Deliver excellent customer service by assisting customers, promoting merchandise, and ensure customer needs, preferences, and expectations are met
  • Educate customers on the benefits of membership in South Country Co-opย 
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 15 years of age and completed Grade 9
  • Previous deli or retail experience is an asset
  • Knowledge of deli products and preparation techniques preferred
  • Physically able to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs (22.5 kg) and perform daily tasks such as standing, bending, and shelving
  • Comfortable working in temperature-controlled environments (coolers, freezers)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of integrity, initiative, and professionalism
  • Positive attitude and commitment to learning
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to new technologies
  • Effective in fast-paced, changing environments
  • Demonstrated ability to treat others with respect, tact, and diplomacy

Work Schedule:

This position requires full availability, including days, evenings, and weekends.
