Job description

HACCP Coordinator

With approximately 3,300 employees, JBS Food Canada ULC (“JBS Canada”) is one of the largest employers in southern Alberta and one of Canada's largest beef processors. Consisting of three locations—the Head Office and a Case Ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta, as well as a processing facility in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily. The JBS Canada Brooks facility has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. At the multi-protein Mountain Creek Farms case-ready facility in Calgary, JBS Canada produces value-added products including marinated, portion sized, multi-pack options, kebabs and much more.

JBS/MCF is seeking an experienced, diligent HACCP Coordinator to join our team. This role will work alongside our production team to monitor and ensure the quality of our hand-made products is maintained at the highest degree.

Please note: This position is located in Calgary, Alberta

You have:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of HACCP experience in a fast paced food industry environment required
  • Relevant post-secondary education in Food Science or related course of study required
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP principles and programs
  • Previous experience in a role requiring internal auditing, training, document management and development
  • Previous experience as a key contributor for the organization and completion of internal and external CFIA, SQF / BRC (GFSI style) audits
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to complete assignments
  • Able to work in a team environment and/or independently as projects require
  • Ability to make quick, logical decisions based on risk assessment
  • Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook with a passion for accuracy
  • Ability to get things done within a decentralized environment with minimal supervision
  • Positive and professional approach with willingness to learn
  • Ability to co-ordinate and co-operate with members of other department
  • Proven ability to work in a safe and efficient manner
  • Good written and oral communication skills

You will:

  • Be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the HACCP system
  • Be responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of a GFSI quality system best practice standards
  • Be responsible for setting and monitoring standards, including the production, shipping, receiving, and packaging areas
  • Act as the key liason between the plant, external auditors, or government regulators
  • Create forms as required to ensure well-documented compliance with all standards
  • Be responsible for accurate and comprehensive records that may be routinely audited
  • Be responsible for communication of standards to management and other team members
  • Be responsible for monitoring and achieving monthly, quarterly and yearly objectives / KPIs
  • Be responsible for training of employees to ensure compliance with all programs
  • Assist/support lab accreditation program
  • Update current HACCP programs, verifications, and re-assessment
  • Perform record checks and onsite verifications
  • Create SOP documentation, training and assist with monitoring / maintenance of these
  • Collaborate with CFIA Inspectors, Operations, Quality Assurance to resolve food safety issues
  • Assist in third party and regulatory audits with QA Manager
  • Assist in the creation of QA policies and procedures
  • Assist with handling customer complaints
  • Assist in testing and other special projects
  • Maintain document control program and annual policies/procedures review
  • Provide back-up to the Quality Assurance Technicians as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned

Office Environment and working in a refrigerated / freezer temperature environment on a daily basis, for part of each day
