Responsibilities
Position Overview
This individual is responsible for supporting Bob Evans Farms in the area of Research & Development for new product development, technical service, cost savings, and customer requests. The Sr. Scientist will manage multiple projects of various degrees of difficulty and will contribute to portions of more complex technical projects. Will be responsible for planning and conducting tests, analyzing and evaluating the data, and formulating conclusions to accomplish department goals. This position will play a role in leading product development efforts involving co-manufacturers along with managing projects at 3rd party product development partners.
Accountabilities
  • Food product development for refrigerated products from idea/concept stage through launch including utilizing co-manufacturers or 3rd party product developers.
  • Serve as R&D lead on cross functional team regarding Stage Gate development
  • Provide excellent skills in areas of formulation development, leveraging knowledge on ingredient functionality, shelf-life, and great tasting food.
  • Work with Marketing, Quality, Regulatory, and Supply Chain on developing product ideas, concepts/ protocepts, products, and finished goods.
  • Plan and execute experiments designed to answer key technical questions. Develop conclusions and recommendations to provide direction.
  • Develop and design new and improved products in accordance with the company's innovation Responsibilities include sensory and shelf-life studies.
  • Work closely with CI on consumer and sensory
  • Develop and implement technologies that support both new product and ingredient development
  • Maintain and improve existing ingredients and
  • Work cross functionally with experts on the team to understand product
  • Keep up to date on food technology advances, with an eye on leveraging application.
  • Set specifications and coordinate all documentation to support final product
  • Generate and maintain accurate and complete records including use of the specification
  • Perform additional R&D duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required in Food Science or related
  • 5-10 years' experience in Food industry working in R&D and/or product development, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with savory items (refrigerated or frozen) and/or with meat products
  • Product development experience in both Upstream/Front End and Product Development/ Qualification/Launch
  • Proven track record of culinary and technical innovation with food products is required.
