Job description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Controls Engineer to design, build, and install turnkey control systems. This role demands a self-reliant engineer with strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to tackle unique challenges across diverse industries, including automotive, chemical, manufacturing, food & beverage, pulp & paper, and wood products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop electrical control panels for machines and automation systems.
  • Create and implement PLC and HMI programs tailored to project needs.
  • Ensure compliance with current safety standards in all designs and systems.
  • Commission and troubleshoot VFDs, motor controls, and servo motor applications.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP and Profinet.
  • Lead projects from inception to completion, including budget management, scheduling, and customer communication.
  • Oversee system installation and startup, ensuring operational excellence.
  • (Preferred) Program and integrate industrial robots, such as FANUC systems.
  • Interpret, modify, and develop mechanical and electrical drawings.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelorโ€™s degree in Engineering is required; Electrical or Mechanical is preferred butย will consider other related fields.
  • Proven expertise in PLC programming, with a preference for Allen Bradley/Rockwellย and GE/Emerson platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with motor controls, including motor starters, VFDs, and DC drives.
  • Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems.
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting and modifying HMI components, control network components, and automated equipment.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and developing technical drawings and schematics.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with industrial robotics programming (e.g., FANUC).
  • Background in vision systems and custom manufacturing equipment is a plus.

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional travel is required (approximately 25%).
