Join the Facilities Operations and Maintenance team, a highly responsive and knowledgeable crew providing outstanding service for Facilities Services and to the university community.
Maintenance Operations, a branch of the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Division, provides comprehensive maintenance services in support of the University's operations.
Our teams provide a comprehensive array of qualified services, backed by our licensed and certified technicians, to this end, we offer opportunities for continuing education, as well as various stipends for additional trade licenses. Our team of trained trade experts are well-matched for the university's operational and maintenance needs, whether the facility is a brand new laboratory or our iconic Tower.

Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employee without sponsorship.
Security sensitive; Criminal background check conducted on selected applicant. Hiring decision is contingent on applicant clearing check. This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code §51.215. Applications will be reviewed online by the hiring department. 40 hours a week, five 8-hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evening, weekends, and holidays possible. May occasionally be required to work on-call.
Purpose
Prevents and resolves customer and maintenance related issues by leading a diverse team of skilled technicians in the application of cost effective maintenance practices that improve the reliability of supported fire safety systems.
Responsibilities
  • Maintains a high degree of productivity, efficiency, cost effectiveness, and quality in shop performance. Closely monitors and controls key performance indicators and ensures adherence to budget.
  • Provides timely and courteous customer service, keeps shop employees up-to-date on current policies, procedures, and related official information to ensure clear, concise, and necessary communication channels are maintained. Enforces all safety requirements.
  • Prepares statement of work, solicits bids, selects best value contractor, obtains required funding, fills out requisition paperwork, coordinates and administers contractor work for maintenance repairs and replacements when deemed more economically prudent to use contractors versus inhouse personnel.
  • Composes, reviews, and processes shop paperwork including letters, reports, timesheets, labor reports, emails, and materials and equipment requisitions to ensure all communication channels and work activities function properly. Coordinates work with other shops when necessary.
  • Uses plans, construction documents, and specifications for estimating labor and material costs and for identifying related equipment relationships to ensure good cost containment and proper preventive maintenance equipment scheduling.
  • Participates in project reviews, staff meetings, and various external shop training and assistance to ensure current and proper information, policies and procedures are known and distributed appropriately.
  • Perform other job related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Diploma (High School) or GED. Five years of experience or a four (4) year technical degree. Three years of experience directly or indirectly supervising fire sprinkler personnel. Experience directly or indirectly supervising fire sprinkler installation/repair/inspections Experience using a personal computer or microcomputer. NICET Level II or pass all testing for NICET Level II within 12 months.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or above in a technical field. Six years or more of experience directly or indirectly supervising fire sprinkler installation/repair/inspections. Completion of vocational trade or apprentice program in one or more journeyman trades. Successful completion of Facilities Services Leader Development Program. More than seven years of maintenance and repair experience with fire sprinkler systems. University of Texas related experience or other comparable University experience, including two or more years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service through problem solving, conflict resolution and direct customer contact. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to an array of customers to include team members, peers, building contacts, and management. Demonstrated strong team building skills. Demonstrated ability to lead a varied multi-craft workforce in preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical systems. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills. Commitment to Facilities Services core values. Experience with computerized service request system.
Salary Range
$74,025 + depending on qualifications

  • This position and associated job duties have been designated as essential during extraordinary and emergency situations when the university is closed. Essential personnel must maintain contact with their supervisor and report to work as regularly scheduled unless directed otherwise.
  • Required to operate an electronic device such as an iPhone, iPad, or laptop/desktop computer to perform and fulfill time reporting and work management requirements. Work management requirements include receiving work assignments, updating work orders, and other functions as required.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Considerable walking, standing, squatting, stooping, and moving of heavy materials and equipment in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to use of personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing duties.
  • May be required to pass a physical examination.
  • May be exposed to loud noise, high dust and allergen levels.
  • May be required to lift up to 50lbs. Often required to twist, grasp, push, pull and bend.
  • May be required to operate forklifts, personnel lifts and cranes. Operate job related equipment.
  • May be required to perform elevated work. Occasional work from ladders and/or scaffolds.
