Job description

Position Summary

Bonneville Contracting & Technology Group is seeking a skilled and motivated Network Technician to support the installation, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of telecommunications and network infrastructure throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Network Technician will work on commercial, industrial, government, and critical-infrastructure projects involving structured cabling, fiber optics, network equipment, wireless systems, and related low-voltage technologies. The ideal candidate is comfortable working both independently and as part of a field team and is willing to travel between project locations as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and maintain Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and fiber-optic cabling systems.
  • Install and configure network equipment, including switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, racks, patch panels, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform fiber-optic termination, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation when qualified.
  • Conduct copper and fiber certification testing using appropriate test equipment.
  • Assist with network configuration, including IP addressing, VLANs, switching, wireless networks, and basic routing.
  • Diagnose network connectivity, cabling, hardware, and communications issues.
  • Install telecommunications racks, cabinets, cable management, pathways, and associated equipment.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings, network diagrams, specifications, and scopes of work.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing results, equipment installations, labeling, and network configurations.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, customers, subcontractors, and other field personnel.
  • Follow company safety requirements and all applicable project, OSHA, and customer-specific procedures.
  • Support other low-voltage systems, including CCTV, access control, and communications systems, when required.
  • Travel throughout Puerto Rico and/or the U.S. Virgin Islands based on project requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical education in networking, telecommunications, electronics, or a related field preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in networking, telecommunications, structured cabling, or a related technical field preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet networks, TCP/IP, switching, wireless networking, and structured cabling.
  • Ability to use common network and cable testing equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems systematically and document findings.
  • Ability to work in construction environments, telecommunications rooms, outdoor locations, and active commercial or industrial facilities.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, power tools, and appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and other trades.
  • English and Spanish proficiency is preferred, particularly for positions supporting projects across Puerto Rico and the USVI.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with any of the following will receive additional consideration:

  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+
  • Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking certification
  • BICSI certifications
  • FOA or other recognized fiber-optic certifications
  • Experience with fiber fusion splicing and OTDR testing
  • Experience with Fluke Networks certification equipment
  • Experience with enterprise Wi-Fi systems
  • Experience with CCTV, access control, or other low-voltage systems
  • Experience performing work on federal, military, airport, telecommunications, or critical-infrastructure projects
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
