Job description

Title: Low Voltage Structured Cable Technician Level 2 (with Access Control Programming Experience)

Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida (South Florida)

Coranet Corp. is seeking a Low Voltage Structured Cable Technician Level 2 with Access Control Programming Experience to join their Field Service teams. The Technician will work under our Lead Cable Technicians and supervise Level 1 Technicians on Coranet's IT infrastructure technician teams to entirely and successfully install low-voltage projects, including structured cabling, access control, physical security, wireless, AV projects, and programming Security, AV, and WiFi systems throughout the Florida Tri-County region.

Responsibilities:

  1. Installation and Testing:
  • Install, terminate, label, and test copper (CAT5e/CAT6) and fiber (single mode/multi mode) cables.
  • Dress-in, terminate, label, and test copper patch panels.
  • Perform patching according to customer-provided switch matrices.
  • Use Fluke Networks or equivalent copper/fiber cable testers/analyzers.

Coordination and Inventory:

  • Work with General Contractors and other project trades such as electrical, furniture, carpet, etc.
  • Receive and inventory drop-shipped project materials.
  • Assemble LAN racks, grounding, cable runways, cable trays, etc.

Circuit Extension:

  • Extend carrier POTS, T1, and cable TV circuits.

Supervision and Guidance:

  • Provide moderate supervision and guidance to Level 1 Technicians.
  • Assist in training and developing Level 1 Technicians.

Troubleshooting:

  • Troubleshoot telecommunication connectivity systems.

Programming:

  • Program and configure Access Control, Security Cameras, AV, and WiFi systems.
  • MUST HAVE: experience programming access control and / or cameras

Qualifications:

Must have demonstrated experience:

  1. with copper and fiber [single mode/multi mode] cable: rough-in, labeling, terminations, and testing.
  2. with copper patch panel: dress-in; terminations; labeling; and, testing.
  3. with Fluke Networks [or equivalent] copper/fiber cable tester/analyzer.
  4. in working with General Contractors and other project trades, e.g., electrical, furniture, carpet, etc.
  5. with the receipt and inventory of drop-shipped project materials.
  6. with LAN rack: assembly; grounding; cable runways; cable tray; etc.
  7. in programming and configuring Security, AV, and WiFi Systems

Required:

  1. Valid driver's license
  2. Access to a motor vehicle
  3. Finger and wrist dexterity, hand/eye coordination.
  4. Ability to work from heights using proper fall protection.
  5. Proficiency with small hand tools and power tools.
  6. Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds.
  7. Physical ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 50 lbs., and drive a vehicle.

Preferred Optional Qualifications:

  • Available for off-hour assignments - weekends and nights.
  • Certifications, e.g., CommScope, Corning, etc.
  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Capable of operating with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to travel, work on remote teams while onsite performing project-driven initiatives
  • Strong administrative skills and the ability to turn around deliverables in a timely fashion

Working Conditions:

  • Job is usually performed in indoor/outdoor environments under multiple environmental conditions.
  • Ability to accept periodic assignments that involve travel away from the immediate district office area based on client needs, business needs, and project scope.
  • Exposure to noisy or dusty conditions; chemicals & solvents; mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards.
  • Must be able to work in the United States.
