Entry-Level Structured Cabling Technician (Low Voltage)

Position Overview

As a Structured Cabling Technician, you will assist with the installation, routing, termination, labeling, and testing of low-voltage cabling systems that support voice, data, security, and network communications infrastructure.

This position provides valuable exposure to commercial telecommunications systems, including copper and fiber optic cabling, telecommunications rooms, data closets, and network infrastructure. Technicians will work under experienced team leads and supervisors while developing the skills necessary to advance within the low-voltage industry.


What You'll Be DoingCable Installation & Pathway Support
  • Install and route Cat5e, Cat6, fiber optic, and other low-voltage communication cabling.
  • Pull and route cable through walls, ceilings, pathways, conduit, sleeves, and furniture systems.
  • Drop cable down walls using fish tape and other installation methods.
  • Support and secure cabling using:
    • J-hooks
    • D-rings
    • Cable trays
    • Bridal rings
    • Trapeze systems
  • Organize and dress cable runs according to industry standards.
Termination & Connectivity
  • Terminate low-voltage devices and communications cabling.
  • Prepare cables for termination by measuring, labeling, organizing, and dressing cable bundles.
  • Install work area outlets, surface mount boxes, floor monuments, and related communication hardware.
  • Learn proper punch-down and termination techniques.
Telecommunications Rooms & Closets
  • Assist with building and organizing MDF and IDF closets.
  • Install:
    • Equipment racks
    • Backboards
    • Patch panels
    • Cross-connects
    • Fiber hardware
    • Cable management systems
  • Support grounding and bonding requirements for communications equipment.
Firestopping & Safety
  • Install sleeves and pull cable through penetrations and pathways.
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures according to project requirements.
  • Follow all customer, company, OSHA, and industry safety standards.
Documentation & Quality
  • Complete timesheets, work orders, material tracking, and related project documentation accurately and on time.
  • Maintain organized job sites and adhere to quality installation standards.
  • Participate in quality assurance processes and inspections.

  • 0-2 years of experience in structured cabling, telecommunications, construction, electrical, or a related field.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively.
