Propulsion Engineer (Associate or Experienced)

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is hiring an Associate or Experienced Propulsion Engineer to perform propulsion system qualification support and analysis in the St. Louis, MO region!

The statement of work will include new product design, development and integration projects in the areas of Fixed Wing Aircraft. Propulsion engineers are essential to the development, safety and success of our products and solutions. Each day, they go above and beyond to meet our customers' overall mission requirements-from initial vehicle concept definition through design, test, validation and in-service support. Your expertise in areas such propulsion analysis, design, testing, or certification will drive the future of aerospace.

The Flight Systems Engineering Capability is an exciting organization in Boeing Defense, Space & Security responsible for performing Flight Engineering across a large portfolio of products and development programs. Product areas within the Flight Systems Capability in the St. Louis/St. Charles region include Fighter Aircraft, Unmanned Aircraft, and Missiles/Weapons Systems. The set of specialized capabilities and skills maintained by our teammates are the foundation of what defines the majority of our Boeing products; things that FLY! The St. Louis region is continuing to grow, and Flight Engineering is looking for motivated, talented engineers to join the Boeing team on the exciting programs located in this region. Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform propulsion system support and analysis, as part of a larger flight science team

  • Define requirements for propulsion systems, auxiliary power systems and air breathing systems.

  • Define, coordinate and control the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and vehicle.

  • Develop specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet customer and regulatory requirements.

  • Configure/design propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria.

  • Use various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance.

  • Support definition and performance of certification tests for propulsion sub-systems and components.

  • Review, processing and approval of engine and component qualification documentation

  • Assist with propulsion ground and flight test planning

  • Develop concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements.

  • Vendor management and coordination

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 2+ years work-related experience with a Bachelors degree OR an equivalent combination of work-related experience and technical education.

  • Willing to travel at least 10% of the time

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • (Level 3) 5+ years work-related experience with a Bachelors degree OR an equivalent combination of work-related experience and technical education.

  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance

  • Propulsion ground and flight test experience

  • Experience with jet engines and/or air breathing propulsion operation fundamentals

  • Propulsion analysis, integration design, system installation, or support experience

  • Propulsion system certification or qualification experience

  • 3D modelling, NX, Unigraphics
