Job Title:  Accreditation Manager                                                    Bargaining Unit: Non-Union
 

Hourly Rate: $42.58 - $54.18  35hrs/week  (Salary commensurate with experience)

General Statement of Duties:  An administrative position that performs non-sworn, technical and administrative work.  Oversees the Police accreditation process, including project management of accreditation activities and assessments.  Works independently under limited supervision with considerable latitude. 
Supervision Received:  Receives general direction from Chief of Police or his/her designee.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Essential Job Functions: Administers accreditation and/or re-accreditation process ensuring compliance with standards developed by state and national accrediting bodies as applicable.  Maintains current information on accreditation standards and the interpretation and application of accreditation standards through active participation with appropriate accreditation commissions and professional associations.  Maintains department accreditation files.  Serves as the department liaison with other law enforcement agencies involved in the accreditation process.  Represents the department in conjunction with the Chief of Police or the Chief's designee at various meetings and conferences for accreditation, may serve on accreditation related committees and participates in accreditation related training. Monitors and maintains accurate, up-to-date records, files and other police record systems through timely reporting.  Plans and monitors assessments and maintains appropriate records.  Takes the lead role in preparation for assessments. Conducts research and inspections of Standard Operating Procedures, guidelines, and policies.  Develops drafts and revisions of same to meet accreditation standards.  Assists in the application process, monitoring, implementation and administration of state and federal grants.  Stays abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process to include proposed changes or amendments to standards and assesses the impact of changes on current procedures, guidelines and policies. Attends professional workshops, training and seminars related to professional standards. Regular and punctual attendance.

Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, attend to task for 45-60 minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time, and understand the theories behind several related concepts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:  Knowledge of operations, modern principles, practices, techniques, services and activities of a municipal law enforcement program. Knowledge of methods and techniques of investigation, identification and collection of evidence. Knowledge of law enforcement theory, principles and practices and their application to a wide variety of services and programs. Must be computer literate. Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze and assess programs, policies and operational needs and recommend appropriate adjustments. Ability to initiate, organize and follow through on police accreditation programs and projects. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, staff, customers and the public; ability to maintain strict confidentiality, work in a team environment and independently; ability to work in a fast-paced, stressful environment; ability to adapt to change; ability to be a self-starter; and demonstrate sound work ethics. Ability to interpret and evaluate legislative initiatives.  Time management and ability to meet deadlines.  Skill in the use of PowerDMS accreditation management software (preferred). Ability to speak publicly about the accreditation process. 
Experience & Training:  Five years of experience in law enforcement work, policy development or policy/procedure administration. Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, Business Management, or a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  A comprehensive criminal background check and a financial/credit check are prerequisites. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
