Sanitation Worker

The Sanitation worker must be able to work independently and as a team along with other members of the crew, be flexible and willing to perform varying tasks per the Food Safety Coordinator's instructions and in accordance with all safety guidelines mandated by the employer.

Responsibilities:
  • Operate industrial vacuum cleaner & floor scrubber to remove dirt, heavy debris and other refuse.
  • Cleaning and sanitization of the lunchroom and washrooms.
  • Wash windows & interior walls.
  • Empty trash cans and other waste containers.
  • Sweep, scrub & mop floors, and stairs.
  • Clean and disinfect washrooms and fixtures.
  • Potential of moving heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensure that security and safety measures are in place in the establishment when leaving facility.
  • Stock supplies, hand soap, paper towels, etc.
  • Complete GMP records of cleaning & sanitation.
  • Other duties which may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • WHMIS Training
  • Food Safety & Health & Safety Knowledge.
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs.).
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices, Health and Safety, Food Safety, HACCP, and the PrimusGFS program
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong communications skills both written and oral.
  • Food industry experience and knowledge of cleaning in a food plant environment would be an asset.
Work Environment:
  • Overtime hours are required occasionally.
  • Cold environment and occasional heavy lifting.
  • Standing and sitting for an extended amount of time may be required.
