What is a fit model?

A Fit Model, or Fitting Model, helps clothing designers in the initial stages of garment design. As a Fit Model, your responsibilities include communicating with the designers and manufacturers about how the clothing fits and how the fabric feels, providing feedback about potential adjustments. You also must maintain your weight and measurements so that you provide a consistent form for the designers. A Fit Modeling job is generally much longer than other model work, like photo shoots and fashion shows. It can take a long period of time to perfect garments, requiring you to make ongoing visits to the designer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fit model, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fit Model, you need to maintain specific body measurements that match industry sample sizes and possess a basic understanding of garment construction and fit. Familiarity with sizing charts, fitting procedures, and sometimes experience with 3D body scanning tools are typically required. Professionalism, reliability, and the ability to provide clear, constructive feedback are vital soft skills that set successful fit models apart. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure accurate garment sizing, effective communication with design teams, and the overall quality of fashion products.

What are the typical challenges a fit model faces during fittings, and how can they be addressed?

Fit Models often encounter challenges such as standing for long periods, maintaining consistent body measurements, and providing clear feedback to designers. It's important to communicate comfort and mobility concerns honestly, as this helps the design team make necessary adjustments. Additionally, Fit Models may need to adapt to varying schedules and work with multiple brands, requiring flexibility and professionalism. Staying fit, following a healthy lifestyle, and building strong communication skills can help address these challenges and ensure a successful career in this role.

What is the difference between Fit Model vs Pattern Maker?

AspectFit ModelPattern Maker
Required CredentialsNone mandatory, but fashion or apparel knowledge helpfulTechnical skills, fashion design or pattern-making certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentClothing fitting sessions in design studios or manufacturing facilitiesDesign studios, manufacturing plants, or pattern development rooms
Employer & Industry UsageFashion brands, apparel companies, clothing manufacturersFashion houses, apparel companies, pattern development firms

While both Fit Models and Pattern Makers work closely in the apparel industry, Fit Models primarily participate in fitting sessions to evaluate garment fit and sizing, whereas Pattern Makers create the patterns used to produce garments. Fit Models focus on body measurements and fitting feedback, while Pattern Makers translate design concepts into technical patterns. Both roles are essential in the clothing development process but serve different functions within the industry.

How much does a fit model get paid?

Fit models typically earn between $15 and $50 per hour, depending on experience, the complexity of the samples, and the company. Payments can also be structured as daily or session rates, especially for freelance or part-time work, and fitting sessions usually require good communication skills and attention to detail.

Job description

Worldscape is a cutting-edge platform designed to unify distributed data, sensors, and intelligent agents across cloud, on-prem, and edge environments. By combining geospatial intelligence, physics-based 3D simulation, and reward-driven AI, Worldscape enables organizations to build immersive digital twins for predictive modeling, scenario planning, and adaptive decision-making. With a zero-trust security framework, seamless integration with legacy systems, and robust developer tools, Worldscape empowers rapid deployment of agentic applications that drive resilience and efficiency in sectors like logistics, telecom, defense, and infrastructure.

We are building a breakthrough platform for next-generation geospatial intelligence and defense applications, and we're looking for an AFSIM Modeler/Software Engineer to help extend our simulation and analytics capabilities. In this role, you'll bring handsโ€‘on experience with AFSIM (Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration, and Modeling) to help develop missionโ€‘level analytics, simulation models, and integrations within a modern software environment. You'll work at the intersection of simulation, software engineering, and aerospace systems, using your understanding of established mission modeling frameworks while helping apply that expertise to nextโ€‘generation simulation environments.

This is a handsโ€‘on engineering role. We're looking for someone who enjoys writing code, solving complex technical problems, and building simulation capabilities. You don't need to be a senior defense analyst or program lead; we're looking for strong technical fundamentals and practical AFSIM experience.

Location:

Redmond, WA preferred; remote candidates will be considered for the right fit.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop, configure, and maintain AFSIM models and simulation scenarios representing complex aerospace and defense systems.
  • Design and implement models for aircraft, weapons, sensors, communications, electronic warfare, and other mission systems.
  • Develop software, scripts, and tooling to extend AFSIM capabilities and automate simulation workflows.
  • Build reusable modeling components and infrastructure that can support multiple simulation scenarios and use cases.
  • Translate system requirements, technical specifications, and operational concepts into robust simulation models.
  • Integrate models and software components into larger simulation environments.
  • Run simulations, debug model behavior, investigate unexpected results, and improve model fidelity and performance.
  • Develop automated workflows for scenario generation, simulation execution, data collection, and results processing.
  • Analyze simulation outputs to validate model behavior and identify opportunities to improve the underlying implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineers, systems engineers, and subjectโ€‘matter experts to ensure models accurately represent realโ€‘world systems.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, testing, and documentation.
  • Help establish best practices for AFSIM development, testing, version control, and reusable model architecture.
Professional Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of handsโ€‘on AFSIM experience, including developing or modifying models and scenarios.
  • Strong software development skills in C++, Python, or a similar programming language.
  • Experience building or working with simulation models, ideally involving aerospace, defense, robotics, autonomous systems, or other complex technical systems.
  • Ability to read and understand existing code and simulation architectures and make meaningful modifications independently.
  • Experience debugging complex software or simulation behavior and systematically identifying the underlying cause.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including version control, testing, debugging, and code quality.
  • Ability to translate realโ€‘world system behavior and technical requirements into software and simulation models.
  • Strong analytical and problemโ€‘solving skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience integrating AFSIM with other simulation, modeling, analytics, or software environments.
  • Experience developing custom AFSIM plugins, models, or extensions.
  • Experience with AFSIM's modeling architecture, interfaces, and APIs.
  • Experience with aircraft, weapons, sensors, ISR, electronic warfare, communications, or air combat systems.
  • Experience modeling crewed and uncrewed platforms.
  • Experience with simulation automation, scenario generation, Monte Carlo analysis, or largeโ€‘scale simulation runs.
  • Experience with Linuxโ€‘based development environments and Git.
  • Familiarity with systems engineering, missionโ€‘level analysis, or operations analysis.
  • Experience working in classified environments.

$145,000 - $185,000 a year

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for performanceโ€‘based bonuses and equity awards.
