Job description

Summary of Position:

As part of the seafood production team, the shellfish packer assumes the crucial role of ensuring that products are processed appropriately for shipment to clients. Responsibilities may extend to the receipt, storage, and internal distribution of products, thereby facilitating the adherence to delivery schedules. The individual in this position will be tasked with maintaining high standards of safety and sanitation at all times.


Responsibilities


  • Adheres to production schedule and customer orders to ensure proper packing and preparation of product for delivery.
  • Packaging and Icing: Pack fish and shellfish into boxes, ensuring proper icing and temperature control.
  • Sorting and Grading: Inspects seafood quality, sorts by size/species, and removes defects.
  • Assembles customer orders from stock, places them on pallets, shelves/racks, conveys orders to the packing station or shipping department, and prepares them for shipping.
  • Sanitation: Maintain a clean work environment, sanitize equipment, and follow strict hygiene and safety procedures.
  • Marks materials with identifying information and weighs products, calculates quantities, and applies accurate labels and tags based on work orders.
  • Records the number of materials or items received or distributed.
  • Arranges products in the specified sequence for processing by other workers as needed.
  • Supports in maintaining inventory records
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education โ€“ High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience โ€“ One to two years of related experience in food production. Experience with Seafood is a plus.
  • Physical demands - Ability to stand for long hours, frequently lift, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work ethic โ€“ A sense of urgency in meeting critical and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Accuracy โ€“ Demonstrated ability to accurately pack product in a timely fashion.
  • Language โ€“ Basic English speaking and written proficiency.
  • Mathematical โ€“ Ability to perform basic arithmetic tasks โ€“ adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying.
  • Work Environment โ€“ Tolerance of working in cold, wet, and refrigerated production areas in a climate of 35ยบ.
  • A combination of the above will also be considered.
