Job Summary
The Society, Culture and Languages J. Konan Language Learning Center (LLC) provides resources to support all CSU students in their completion of foreign language courses. The LLC hires student workers to assist faculty and students in laboratory use, especially as it relates but not limited to the use of language learning aids, media software, and audio-visual technologies. Lab assistants are supervised by the Academic Support Assistant and the Chair of the Department of Society, Culture, and Languages.
Responsibilities
  • Assists faculty, teaching assistants, and instructs, and supervises students in the use of language laboratory facilities, audio-visual equipment, and software applications.
  • Develops language learning aids.
  • Coordinates acquisitions of laboratory hardware software; maintains records of materials and equipment in a systematic manner.
  • Assists in the production of laboratory exercises, programs, examinations, and on location recordings of lectures, meetings, classes, and seminars.
  • Assists in the operation of laboratory equipment; assures that equipment is properly maintained to facilitate maximum utilization.
  • Assist with data collection and analysis as it relates to the usage and efficacy of LLC and its programs.
  • Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications
Be a graduate student at Columbus State University. Preference given to students studying languages, data analysis, and/or computer science.
Proposed Salary
The salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position will work up to 19 hours per week.

  • Knowledge of techniques and technologies useful in second and foreign language learning.
  • Skills in editing, on location recording, and audio-visual materials production for use in a language laboratory or for social media campaigns.

  • Possess effective management and supervisory practices.
  • Ability to work weekdays at times between the hours of 8am and 8pm.
