Core Transit offers paid CDL training- but weโ€™re upfront about what it takes.
Training runs 6-8 weeks, is structured, fast-paced, and requires full attendance.


This role is based in a mountain community with:
โ€ข Cold and snowy weather conditions
โ€ข Limited housing availability
โ€ข Variable schedules (including nights, early mornings and weekends)
โ€ข This is a fast-paced environment requiring full commitment


HIRING RANGE

  • Start Pay: $30.75/ Hour - $31.83 after training is successfully completed!
  • FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
  • Full Time- Year Round

Requirements:

TRANSIT BUS OPERATOR Weโ€™re looking for safety-focused, customer-driven individuals ready to build a long-term career in public transportation. Operators safely transport passengers, stay on schedule, deliver excellent customer service, and help keep our community moving.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform thorough, federally mandated pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.

  • Practice safe defensive driving techniques, always staying alert to speed and external conditions.
  • Assist passengers, including those with disabilities, ensuring compliance with ADA standards and providing a welcoming experience.
  • Share route and schedule information to help riders reach their destinations with ease.
  • Operate transit equipment, dispatch systems, and security cameras, with confidence and precision.
  • Communicate professionally with dispatch and passengers, addressing policy questions and ensuring smooth operations.
  • Stay informed by regularly checking employee communication channels for updates on policies and procedures.
  • Complete and submit all required paperwork, including accident and incident reports, with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Observe safety and security procedures, report potential hazards, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Serve the community by demonstrating Core Transitโ€™s mission and values in every interaction.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.

PREFERRED

  • CDL Permit or CDL Class B with passenger endorsement

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • CDL permit and then class B CDL License with passenger endorsement must be obtained within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must meet all physical requirements outlined in Section 391.41 of the CDL Physical Standards, including passing a DOT physical.
  • Must comply with all federal regulations and company policies regarding drug and alcohol testing, including meeting the standards set forth by 49 CFR Part 655, 49 CFR Part 40, and the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988, as amended.
COMPREHENSIVE PRE-EMPLOYMENT PROCESS

At Core Transit, safety and reliability are our top priorities. To ensure weโ€™re building the best team, all candidates must:

  • Pass a detailed background check to confirm eligibility.
  • Complete a Department of Transportation Drug & Alcohol test successfully.
  • Undergo a CDL Medical Exam to confirm fitness for duty and compliance with federal standards.
  • Provide references to verify qualifications and experience.

LOCATION & COMMITMENTS:

  • Working hours will vary, Monday-Sunday, 23hrs a day, 8/10-hour shifts.
  • Work from all our locations Avon, Vail, Leadville as needed.
  • Work holidays and weekends as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS This role requires:

  • Mobility: Sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, and climbing on and off buses.
  • Coordination: Simultaneous use of arms, hands, legs, and feet to safely operate the vehicle.
  • Strength: Lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Endurance: Maintaining focus and alertness during long shifts and challenging road conditions.
  • Vision & Hearing: Clear communication and the ability to respond to emergency situations.
