Our Specialty Human Services Division is seeking a Senior Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist to join their team. This role is responsible for supporting Ohio, a key underwriting territory that serves the division's home office location, making it a highly visible and strategically important book of business. Job title and job grade will depend on the successful applicant'slevel of experience. This position will be based in our Cincinnati, OH headquarters. Great American's culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core inoffice days are Tuesday-Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and underwrites new and renewal business in accordance with Company underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.

  • Analyzes risk data to make informed decisions on coverage, pricing, and terms.

  • Collaborates with actuaries, agents, brokers, and clients to obtain necessary information and clarify details.

  • Orders and reviews additional reports and screens, such as motor vehicle reports, loss history reports, outside inspections, etc., to inform decisions.

  • Ensures proper documentation of underwriting decisions and compliance with state and federal insurance regulations.

  • Evaluates existing policies for potential renewal or modification.

  • Communicates underwriting decisions clearly and effectively to internal teams, agents, and brokers.

  • Stays updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and market conditions.

  • Develops and maintains effective business relationships with internal and external customers/coworkers, focusing on generating new business and retaining profitable business.

  • Interprets, explains, and markets products and services.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Economics, Risk Management and Insurance, or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Generally, a minimum of 5 years of experience in Underwriting or a related field. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Underwriting (AU), Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Program in General Insurance (INS), or Associate of Risk Management (ARM).

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrates strong analytical skills with attention to detail.

  • Position requires occasional travel.
