Job description

Do you want to be a part of New Mexico history? Join us in serving and protecting the first purpose-built Spaceport in the nation!

As a Firefighter/EMT for Fiore Industries, you will be responsible for providing 24/7 response with crew and equipment to fire alarms and emergency situations at Spaceport America. This position requires you to work 24- or 48-hour shifts, depending on your employment status. During your shift, you will also assist with emergencies in outlying communities as needed. Response includes fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, removing persons from potentially dangerous situations, performing all aspects of structural, ARFF, and wildland fire suppression.

Essential Functions

  • Reports directly to shift Lieutenant
  • Dons personal protective equipment (PPE) and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA)
  • Responds as a crew to various types of aircraft anomalies and emergencies as directed
  • Responds as a crew to fire and trouble alarms to existing and future aerospace structures
  • Responds as a crew to medical emergencies within the facility boundaries and assists with mutual aid with surrounding districts
  • Responds as a crew to urban interface and wildland fire fighting operations within response area
  • Perform as a crew to assist in extrication of persons out of vehicles, confined spaces and ravines using technical rescue techniques
  • Performs basic building inspections per NFPA 101 & NFPA 5000
  • Performs visual inspection of installed fire sprinkler systems per NFPA 13 & 25
  • Performs monthly inspection of portable fire extinguishers per NFPA 10
  • Creates lesson plans and instructs other firefighters for continued education
  • Performs public speaking duties with visitors, tenants and other employees as directed
  • Inspects, cleans and performs minor maintenance to apparatus, sleeping quarters and firefighting equipment as directed to maintain constant operational readiness
