Job description

FIRE LIEUTENANT - STARTING PAY: $24.35 - $26.87 PER HOUR DOEDepartment:Fire & RescueLocation:Carlsbad, NM

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The shift Lieutenant shall be a sworn firefighting position. Upon acceptance of this position, the selected applicant shall pass an NFPA 1583 medical screening physical. The shift Lieutenant will be subject to annual physical fitness assessments and NFPA 1583 medical screening physicals. The Shift Lieutenant shall be responsible for commanding emergency operations, including but not limited to assuming leadership on fire scenes, directing firefighting tactics, assigning tasks to crew members, and making rapid decisions to ensure the safety of all involved. The Shift Lieutenant shall be responsible for station and personnel management to include but not limited to overseeing daily operations at the fire station, scheduling, crew assignments, equipment maintenance, regular training drills, exercises, and ensuring compliance with department policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Shift Lieutenant shall be responsible for pre-fire plans, public education, fire investigations, or other technical-related duties assigned by the Fire Chief or designee. The Shift Lieutenant shall be responsible for monitoring the performance of firefighters, providing feedback, addressing disciplinary issues, promoting professional development, assuring adequate documentation of emergency responses, and coordinating with law enforcement and other fire and EMS departments at emergency scenes. This position will work a 48 hour on-duty/96 hour off-duty rotating schedule. Employees must perform all duties with minimal supervision. Employees may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings in and out of town, and perform all other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief or designee.


Salary/Compensation: $24.35 - $26.87 per hour
