Job description

Objective
To support the client with clear, authoritative, and business-friendly content focused on high-risk payments, merchant services, and underwriting, translating complex payment concepts into accessible, persuasive content for merchants and partners.
Profile Overview
We are seeking an experienced payments and fintech writer with direct familiarity in high-risk merchant services. The ideal writer has prior experience with high-risk processors, merchant account fees, ISOs, payment gateways, or underwriting teams and can confidently explain nuanced payment topics without relying on jargon.
This writer should balance technical accuracy with strong storytelling, producing content that educates merchants while also positioning payment solutions accurately.
Scope
  • Project commitment: 70-75 hours total, with the ability to extend if the partnership is successful
  • Content Types: SEO blogs re-optimizations, educational resources, and product explainers
Responsibilities:
  • Write educational and persuasive content related to: Payment processing and POS systems, merchant accounts, including high-risk merchant accounts, chargebacks, underwriting, fees, and compliance (high-level)
  • Develop content explaining: Account terminations, holds, and reserves, rolling reserves, tiered pricing, and fee structures, what makes a business "high risk", why mainstream processors decline certain industries
  • Clearly differentiate: Stripe vs. high-risk processors, traditional vs. specialized underwriting, aggregators vs. dedicated merchant accounts
  • Translate complex payment topics into clear, human language
  • Incorporate feedback while also proactively proposing content ideas and angles
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Prior experience writing for or working within high-risk payments, fintech, merchant services, or underwriting
  • Strong storytelling skills (not just definitions or technical documentation)
  • Ability to adapt tone across educational and persuasive content
  • Business-friendly, conversational writing style
Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Worked for a high-risk processor, ISO, or payment gateway
  • Written for compliance, risk, or underwriting teams
  • Interviewed merchants about payment or processing challenges
  • Experience with: Payment processors, ISOs or agents, POS companies, SaaS fintech companies, acquirers, gateways, or payment facilitators
About the Client:
The client operates in the payments and merchant services space, supporting businesses particularly high-risk businesses, with specialized processing solutions. Their focus is on helping merchants navigate underwriting, compliance, and long-term payment stability through transparent, informed guidance.
