Job Description:

We are seeking a FinOps Practitioner Principal to work across our client organization to deliver solutions aligned with the business capability delivery and with a focus on providing optimized IT at best value. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of cloud service technologies and will integrate with a team that supports opportunities for optimization of cloud services.

The FinOps Practitioner Principal will be part of the Technology Shared Services (TSS) team with a base of operations in Bossier City, LA. TSS provides a variety of services to the programs supported by GDIT. The candidate will deliver FinOps to GDIT program customers. This involves coordinating meetings, identifying and presenting recommendations, building and maintaining dashboards, sending reports, and collaborating with FinOps personas to ultimately achieve maximum IT value. This role requires a proactive and self-motivated individual who can take ownership of FinOps initiatives, contribute to strategic discussions, and drive measurable cost efficiencies across cloud environments.

MEANINGFUL WORK AND PERSONAL IMPACT
As a FinOps Practitioner Principal, the work you'll do at GDIT will be impactful to the missions of our customers. You will play a crucial role in the following core responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing cloud cost analysis and developing recommendations aligned with FinOps best practices
  • Developing and maintaining showback capabilities by project, service, or line of business
  • Serving as the FinOps SME in project discussions to ensure cost effective architecture and design
  • Supporting cloud budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and financial reporting
  • Collaborating with architects and program teams to implement FinOps tools and platforms using federal and industry best practices
  • Developing program specific FinOps frameworks including principles, personas, domains, and roadmaps
  • Monitoring cloud costs and conducting Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses
  • Leading technical and financial assessments to identify cost saving design options and usage patterns
  • Championing FinOps practices and supporting capability development for stakeholders across the organization
  • Supporting the development of centralized financial decision making portals
  • Ensuring cloud investments deliver maximum business value through effective cost management strategies
  • Providing cost estimation, optimization insights, and ensuring billing accuracy

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED
Bring your technology expertise and drive for innovation to GDIT. The FinOps Practitioner Principal must have:

Education:

  • Technical Training and/or Certification(s) with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or Google
  • -or- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Information Science, Information Technology, or other relevant field

Experience:

  • 5+ years working with cloud services (AWS, et al.)
  • Experience providing stakeholder or customer support in a technical or financial capacity
  • 1+ year performing FinOps practices, including cost analysis, optimization, or cloud financial reporting

Required Skills:

  • Solid understanding of Information Technology (IT) service management and how FinOps integrates with IT operations, their billing models, and cost management tools
  • Foundational understanding of cloud services and proficiency with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), with specific knowledge of AWS cloud billing tools
  • Familiar with AWS service offerings to include resources supporting networks, compute, storage, databases, containers, etc.
  • Experience with or exposure to common cloud billing processes and operations practices, to include product pricing models, subscriptions, usage, and invoicing
  • Able to lead conversations with distributed teams including technical, finance, executive, business partners, and customers
  • Ability to lead a small team and work solo to perform required tasks
  • Experience developing business cases, performing TCO/value analysis, and identifying cost optimization opportunities.
  • Experience delivering reports and presentations that articulate cloud cost impacts and design tradeoffs.
  • Experience with AWS native tools such as Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports, and/or Amazon QuickSight.
  • Experienced user of common office applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Working knowledge of IT service management tools such as ServiceNow, Jira, or BMC Remedy
  • Professional with strong communication skills who works well within a team
  • Must possess analytical skills to solve simple to complex problems

The likely salary range for this position is $106,250 - $143,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.

Paid leave and paid holidays are prorated based on the employee's date of hire.
