Fingerprint Analyst Jobs in Tennessee (NOW HIRING)

Position Summary

Works in a specialized environment under an assigned supervisor to be primarily responsible for encoding and analyzing fingerprints using those on file in the AFIS database; monitoring/restoring AFIS system functions; performing system backups; and processing all new arrests and releases through the AFIS systems while training other personnel to do same.
 

Pay Grade: 48

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
 

Minimum Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience in a properly maintained fingerprint file system; and have successfully completed an authorized fingerprint classification course sponsored by the F.B.I. or State Training Academy; AND
• High school diploma or possess a GED; OR
• Two (2) years of working experience in a properly maintained fingerprint file system and must have successfully completed the F.B.I. Fingerprint Training program.
• High school diploma or possess a GED; OR 
• PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
   

Duties and Responsibilities

• Encodes crime scene prints to reduce search time and improve respondent accuracy in the database.
• Analyzes and classifies latent fingerprints using the Henry System.
• Compares and identifies respondent images against fingerprint databases and unsolved latent files.
• Provides technical assistance to other agencies on latent fingerprints.
• Supports identification efforts for other agencies and testifies as an expert witness in court.
• Advises junior personnel on fingerprint classification and AFIS requirements.
• Monitors AFIS system processes, correcting any errors or failures.
• Performs system backups to maintain database integrity and efficiency.
• Trains ID Technical personnel on AFIS workstations and scanning/editing procedures.
• Trains Jail personnel on Livescan equipment usage.
• Documents all training and system issues, reporting to the AFIS manager.
• Monitors computer equipment rooms for environmental issues and restores associated AFIS equipment.
• Prepares routine reports and statistical data as needed.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Knowledge of laws, ordinances, rules and regulations affecting the record-keeping operations of a department and skill in applying them.
• Ability to plan, organize, and maintain an even flow of work.
• Knowledge of business English and math.
• Ability to compose general correspondence and write and type documents for a variety of needs.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other software.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems and exercise good judgment.
• Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely and effectively verbally and in writing.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public, co-workers and other departments.
• May require specialized knowledge, skills, or abilities in specified work functions or areas.
