Job description

Position Summary


This is a non-Shelby County Government position.

Works under general supervision to perform various employment opportunities with the Shelby County Election Commission.


Pay Grade: 41H


Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the date of application; AND 

  • High school diploma or possess a GED. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all tasks needed to prepare the polling site for elections and process voters. 


KSAs

  • Ability to use two (2) or more computer programs. 

  • Ability to understand and follow election laws. 

  • Ability to use good customer service skills. 

  • Ability to pay attention to detail. 

  • Must be able to work various hours and days as required. 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. 

  • Must be a registered Shelby County voter with an active voting record.  

  • Attend mandatory training as needed.  

  • Must be able to travel to various Election Commission offices and polling locations in Shelby County.

Shelby County Resident Disclaimer

All employees hired after September 1, 1986, must be residents of Shelby County and shall continue to reside in the County as a condition of their employment.  The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees.  This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department.  The residency exemption for public safety/civil service employees does not include Appointed positions with Sheriff's Office, Division of Corrections or the Fire Department.
