ABOUT AVON LAKE CITY SCHOOLS

Avon Lake City Schools is a high-performing suburban district located along the shores of Lake Erie in Lorain County, serving approximately 3,400 students. The district is known for its academic excellence, strong fiscal stewardship, and deep community support.

THE TREASURER OPPORTUNITY

Avon Lake City Schools seeks a strategic, collaborative, and detail-oriented Treasurer to lead the district's financial operations and support long-term fiscal stability.

The Treasurer serves as the district's Chief Financial Officer and is a key advisor to the Board of Education and Superintendent. This role is responsible for ensuring financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and effective stewardship of district resources. The Treasurer will:

  • Lead development and oversight of the district's five-year financial forecast
  • Provide clear, accurate, and timely financial reporting and analysis
  • Ensure compliance with Ohio Revised Code, Auditor of State requirements, and all applicable regulations
  • Oversee budgeting, investments, cash management, payroll, benefits administration, and financial reporting
  • Maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness
  • Support strategic planning and long-term financial sustainability
  • Communicate financial information effectively to board members, staff, and the community

This position requires a leader who is proactive, responsive, and committed to transparency and continuous improvement.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Ohio School Treasurer license (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe)
  • Demonstrated experience in school district finance, including forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting
  • Strong knowledge of Ohio school finance laws, compliance requirements, and audit processes
  • Experience working collaboratively with boards of education and district leadership
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data clearly
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • High ethical standards and commitment to stewardship of public funds
  • Leadership experience overseeing financial operations and staff

COMPENSATION

The Board of Education will offer a competitive compensation package, including a multi-year contract with annual performance evaluations. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and demonstrated leadership.
