The Manager – Government Financial Reporting & Consulting, will oversee the preparation of financial documents, reports, and schedules for government clients. This role will include leadership, compliance and quality control, reporting and communication, process improvement, and research and technical expertise. They will be responsible for ensuring that all preparation work is performed to the highest standards and aligns with regulatory requirements. The manager will also play a key role in business development and practice growth.

Job Duties

Leadership

  • Manage the government financial reporting & consulting team, including senior associates and staff. Provide guidance, support, and training to enhance team performance and professional development
  • Will serve as a coach as needed for lower-level employees
  • Oversee the delegation of tasks and responsibilities to ensure efficient and effective completion of client engagements. Monitor team progress and adjust resources as necessary

Compliance and Quality Control

  • Ensure that all financial reporting and consulting work complies with applicable accounting standards, governmental regulations, and firm policies. Review and validate financial documents, reports, and schedules for accuracy and completeness
  • Implement and enforce quality control procedures to detect and address any errors or discrepancies. Conduct regular reviews of department processes to maintain high standards and regulatory compliance

Reporting and Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding government financial reporting & consulting services. Maintain clear and effective communication with clients to address inquiries, provide updates, and resolve any issue
  • Provide clear, proactive communication to clients and firm leadership regarding engagement status, timelines, risks, and outcomes, ensuring expectations are managed and decisions are supported

Process Improvement

  • Identify areas for improvement in processes and develop strategies to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall effectiveness. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to streamline workflows
  • Lead initiatives to adopt new technologies and methodologies that improve preparation services and client satisfaction

Research and Technical Experience

  • Stay current on developments in governmental accounting standards, regulations, and industry trends. Apply this knowledge to ensure compliance and enhance the quality of preparation services.
  • Conduct research and provide technical expertise on complex accounting issues. Offer solutions and recommendations based on thorough analysis and industry best practices

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience in the use of various assurance applications and research tools as is appropriate for this level
  • Microsoft Office Products, including Windows, Word, Excel, Adobe and PowerPoint
  • Sound Governmental GAAP experience
  • Possess proven verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent people development and delegation skills, including training/instruction and engagement scheduling and budgeting
  • Possess executive presence - need to be able to be primary contact for the client, prepare and present presentations to clients and potential clients
  • Possess client development/relationship-building skills
  • Possess solid decision-making skills
  • Able to resolve complex accounting issues

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent required

Experience:

  • Five (5) or more years’ prior work experience in public accounting or industry equivalent
  • Prior experience with Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB’s) is preferred
  • Prior significant supervisory experience

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Licensed CPA or international equivalent
