DIRECTOR INFORMATION SYSTEMS

JOB SUMMARY

The Director of IS&T is a key executive on the MWPH Senior Leadership Team which is responsible to provide strategic vision, leadership, direction and operational effectiveness on behalf of the Hospital. This position works hand in hand with the executive management team in planning and executing initiatives for the organization. This position has responsibility for Information Technology, Clinical Informatics and Information Security. The Director is responsible for the oversight, strategic direction and effective operations for all areas of responsibility and other areas as designed from time to time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

  • Is an effective and collaborative member of the Executive Team providing leadership to MWPH.
  • Works with the MWPH Board with respect to strategic initiatives for Information Technology, Information Security, Clinical Informatics, and other areas as designated.
  • Align areas of responsibility objectives and programs with enterprise objectives and strategies and define related metrics based on business needs of the Hospital.
  • Provides leadership, strategic direction and oversight for the successful development and implementation of information services, information security, information technology, for the Hospital.
  • Provide management for the IS&T Department.
  • Creates a vision and roadmap for areas of responsibility; works closely with all executives and leaders to understand the organization and how-to best position information technology, information to support their goals and the goals of the organization.
  • Communicates that vision to all members of the organization in a manner that is clear and transparent.
  • Monitors the healthcare delivery environment in order to anticipate any impact on areas of responsibility and/or the Hospital.
  • Organize, lead and facilitate the functioning of areas of responsibility, providing excellent customer service to all clinical, support and business functions within MWPH.
  • Provide appropriate oversight in the development of policies and procedures to ensure Hospital and regulatory compliance is attained.
  • Initiate, facilitate and collaborate with appropriate vendors, while protecting and serving the mission of the organization.
  • Develop cooperative relationships with local, regional and national peer levels both inside and outside the health care industry.
  • Encourage and emphasizes an effective project management approach and skills development
  • Establishes mechanisms to assess and evaluate effectiveness and performance of all areas of responsibility.
  • Formulate and/or approve all related budgets, vendor contracts, staffing needs or issues, policies and procedures and assure the effective utilization of physical and financial resources.
  • Establishes mechanisms for involving organization leadership in major relative initiatives while keeping them apprised of the status of all current and planned activities. Also establishes leadership council for specific operational areas to effectively lead the execution of initiatives for the Hospital.
  • Maintains an organizational structure for the appropriate management functions and recruit the necessary team support the current and future needs of the Hospital.
  • Communicate extensively throughout the organization. Clearly articulate issues and remedies to executives, clinicians and other constituents. Help the organization stay the course on any initiative.
  • Motivates and fosters re-engineering of business practices with a focus on change management.
  • Builds and supports effective, productive and action oriented multidisciplinary teams to support organizational strategies, initiatives, projects and programs.
  • Develops and supports programs that encourage and facilitate understanding, enthusiasm and effective utilizations of information technology by organizational users.
  • Provide oversight of the information and data security and integrity programs of the Hospital.
  • Identify emerging technologies and their potential value to be assimilated, integrated and introduced to the organization.
  • Establish and implement short- and long-term tactical goal, objectives, polices and operating procedures.
  • Performs related duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Educational Requirements

  • Completion of a Master's Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or Information Systems preferred
  • Management or equivalent experience is required. An MD and or PhD for an accredited US based school will be considered to have met this requirement

Work Orientation and Experience

A minimum of eight (8) years' experience in a management position in an information technology, healthcare administration, is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proven record of successful implementation of information systems in a complex healthcare environment. High record of achievement.
  • Excellent project management background.
  • Highly resourceful in negotiating and interpersonal skills
  • Outstanding abilities in both verbal and written communications.
  • Strong presentation skills.
