Job description

Sandalwood Management, a dynamic property management firm is seeking an enthusiastic and resourceful Commercial Property Accountant to join our fast-growing team. This position, reporting to the Controller, will oversee the AR & GL functions for a portfolio of retail and office properties. This position is 100% in-office. In person attendance at the corporate office will be required daily. Applicants should reside within a commutable distance to our corporate office or relocate to reside within a commutable distance prior to the hire date.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Verify accuracy of lease data and accounting data entered in YARDI (property management software).
  • Weekly review of accounts payable and monitoring of available cash.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Post month-end close journal entries.
  • Record and review monthly accrual entries.
  • Review tenant ledgers to ensure accuracy of charges and receipts in accordance with lease.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement packages.
  • Ensure company adherence to policies and procedures for consistent processing.
  • Provide insight into property performance for month end reviews.
  • Perform periodic reviews of CAM, insurance and taxes billed to tenants. Prepare reconciliation calculations of these items annually.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • BA or BS degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field.
  • 1 to 2 years of corporate accounting experience.
  • Experience with commercial property management preferred.
  • Familiarity and understanding of commercial lease agreements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel.
  • Experience with property management software applications, preferably Yardi.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Collaborative and team focused attitude.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a high volume fast paced environment.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail.
