Job description

Who We Are
Weber Shandwick is more than a leading global PR agency - we're an engagement agency and we're working in and around the cutting edge of the new media landscape. We're storytellers, content creators, and we engage people IN the story. Our success is built on a deep commitment to client service and to our people. We embrace creativity and collaboration, and we engage stakeholders in new and creative ways to build brands and reputations.
Associate, Financial Communications
Weber Shandwick is seeking an Associate to join its Financial Communications team, which is part of the Weber Advisory group. As part of Weber Advisory, our work goes beyond traditional communications. We help clients anticipate risk, shape narratives, engage stakeholders and build the trust that drives enterprise value. We combine strategic communications, cultural intelligence, issues expertise, digital influence and AI-enabled insights to provide C-Suite and board-level leaders with strategic counsel across four key pillars: Strategy & Reputation, Public Affairs & Impact, Crisis & Issues, and Transactions & Transformations.
Within Weber Advisory, the Financial Communications teams advises public and private companies across industries on strategic and capital markets communications efforts that protect reputation, support valuation and optimally position them among relevant stakeholders. Our engagements span both the normal-course financial lifecycle (e.g., quarterly earnings, proxy statements) as well as transformative events (e.g., mergers and acquisitions (M&A)/post-merger integration, initial public offerings (IPO), litigation, bankruptcy, activism, executive management transitions, cybersecurity events, labor issues, etc.). We collaborate closely in these engagements with both the C-suite and key investor relations (IR)/public relations (PR) personnel, as well as an organization's external counsel and financial advisor(s).
As an Associate, you will have the unique opportunity to help drive communications around high-stakes financial transactions, earnings, and corporate milestones. You will support day-to-day account activity, transaction work (IPOs, M&A, investments, etc.), financial media relations, and Investor Relations (IR) activities. Working directly with senior leadership, you will conduct essential research, develop materials, and actively support new business opportunities to help grow the practice. Any prior experience or background in financial communications or IR is a strong plus, but not required.
What You Will Be Doing
Financial Communications & Client Work
  • Financial & IR Support: Support a range of financial communications and special situations, including M&A, IPOs, shareholder activism, and bankruptcies, as well as ongoing IR activities (quarterly earnings, roadshows, and investor days, etc.).
  • Financial Media Relations: Execute frequent media outreach around financial events, helping clients navigate the complex landscape of "tier-one" business news and financial trade outlets. This includes backgrounding and pitching reporters, developing briefing materials, building and maintaining media lists, fact-checking, and facilitating client interviews.
  • AI Integration: Effectively and appropriately leverage AI-driven tools and platforms to enhance landscape research, analyze financial and industry data, and optimize content development workflows.
  • Content Development: Support the drafting of press releases, media strategies, reactive media statements, talking points, FAQs, memos, and other key financial deliverables.
  • Research & Landscape Intelligence: Conduct pressing research on corporate and financial issues. Review and prepare executive summaries that distill complex financial data into concise insights for internal teams and clients.
  • Account Management: Keep client programs on schedule, prepare for client meetings, accurately capture action items, and ensure all deadlines are met within set budget parameters.
  • New Business Support: Actively support the group's new business pipeline by conducting landscape research, assisting in the development of pitch materials, and collaborating on cross-selling efforts across the agency.
  • Thought Leadership: Assist in the creation of materials that help position Weber Advisory as a leader in capital markets and financial communications.

Team Effectiveness:
  • Collaboration: Serve as a reliable and proactive team member, producing high-quality work and collaborating with cross-functional partners, including legal counsel and buy-side vendors.
  • Culture: Contribute to an inclusive team culture and consistently display behaviors that support the integration of our global network.

Basic Qualifications
  • Experience: Up to two years of relevant professional experience in financial communications, investor relations, and/or a related agency/corporate setting.
  • IR/Media Skills: Direct experience or a strong interest in Investor Relations (IR) is a plus. Must have familiarity with "tier-one" business and financial media relations.
  • Education: BA or BS, preferably in Business, Finance, Economics, Communications, or similar fields.
  • Financial Acumen: Solid understanding of capital markets and the issues affecting the financial and reputational well-being of companies.
  • Communication Skills: Communicates clearly, analytically, and persuasively both orally and in writing, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Work Ethic: Thrives under pressure and can handle multiple time-sensitive projects in a demanding, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Fluent in Microsoft Suite (Excel proficiency is key). Must have familiarity with generative AI tools and a strong aptitude for applying them to communications workflows. Experience with media databases (Cision, MuckRack) and financial tools (Bloomberg, S&P Cap IQ, FactSet) is a strong plus.

Salary Range: $52,000 USD - $55,000 USD
