Job Summary
Calculate student budgets, review need analysis, and determine student eligibility for federal and state aid. Process loans for the Direct Loan Program. Counsel students and parents regarding the financial aid programs. Package awards for eligible students and determine satisfactory progress for all applicants for aid. Prepare reports as needed. Communicate to students, both verbally and electronically, the status of their aid award. Talk with interested groups about the university's financial aid program. Communicate with ineligible students who do not meet the university's satisfactory academic progress policy. Review verification status of students certified by our verification agent. Provide financial aid counseling for students in a particular alphabet. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Essential Job Duties
The applicant must have at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory role managing other financial aid counselors. The Senior Counselor will be responsible for supervising at least three junior-level counselors. Therefore, it is essential that the successful candidate be able to provide advice and guidance to the counselors on federal regulations. The successful candidate must be able to review the financial aid files of selected students to ensure that the counselors are following established guidelines.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Experience of at least two years of related work experience in a college or university in the financial aid process. At least two years of college credit. A college degree in business or related area. Provide excellent customer service in a courteous manner. Ability to implement financial aid activities in conformity with federal and state regulations within university policies and procedures. ABILITY TO INTERACT EFFECTIVELY WITH UNIVERSITY STAFF, STUDENTS AND PARENTS. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of computer applications, especially the Colleague data system. Must be a team player.
Physical Demands
Frequently required to sit, talk and listen to students. Occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
Skills and Attributes
Essential knowledge of computer system keyboards and the ability to work effectively in stressful environments during peak periods.
