ORGANIZATION SUMMARY
Housing Forward, formally known as Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance (MDHA) is a backbone organization that leads the development of an effective homeless rehousing system. In partnership with 100+ public, private, and nonprofit institutions, we make the experience of homelessness in Dallas and Collin Counties rare, brief, and non-recurring. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Housing Forward is looking for a detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join us in ending homelessness in Dallas and Collin Counties. The Financial Accountant will assist in providing consistent, timely and accurate financial management and administration of Housing Forward's finances, financial systems, processes, and records to meet the organization's financial goals. This individual will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all appropriate regulatory, policy and legal requirements, and assisting with the preparation, coordination, analysis and supervision of departmental budgeting. The Financial Accountant will also play a critical role in all auditing processes related to the compliance of generally accepted accounting principles and Federal and State regulations.
Fiscal Performance
โ€ข Assist with ensuring expenditures is in accordance with federal and state program requirements, general statutes, and generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
โ€ข Assist with the preparation of monthly grant and contract reimbursement requests in accordance with funding agency requirements including coordination and review of time sheets or activity logs, of non-labor internal charges, and of subcontractor reimbursement requests.
โ€ข Analyze and review supporting documentation to ensure allocability and allowability of expenses to comply with applicable Federal and State regulations and grant or contract requirements including documentation from subcontractors in support of periodic reimbursement requests.
โ€ข Record revenue from foundations, grants and privately raised contributions.
โ€ข Reconcile revenue and expenses between reimbursement requests and general ledger.
โ€ข Assist with the review of budget to actual expenses to assist in monitoring the status of expenditures for over/under spending.
AP/AR
โ€ข Review, reconcile and record employee benefit expenditures into accounting system.
โ€ข Process bank reconciliations
โ€ข Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
โ€ข Assist with recording fixed assets and managing fixed assets schedule.
โ€ข Work collaboratively with team members to ensure employee expense reimbursement requests are recorded in a timely manner and are in compliance with internal policies.
โ€ข Ensure appropriate policies and procedures, and processes with respect to financial transactions are followed.
โ€ข Monitor and record expenditures and receipts ensuring timely, effective and accurate record keeping.
โ€ข Provide financial, administrative, and clerical support for the company.
โ€ข Assist the VP, Finance and Operations in maintaining the financial/reporting systems.
โ€ข Assists with planning, organizing and directing the activities of the preparation of the departmental budgets to achieve deadlines.
โ€ข Review departmental financial activities for purposes of promoting more efficient operations.
โ€ข Perform month-end and year-end procedures including but not limited to preparing month-end reconciliation and year-end working papers for monthly financial reports, monthly closing and the organization's annual audit and ad-hoc monitoring.
โ€ข Coordinate and assist the external auditors during their audit fieldwork. Assist to ensure all audited financial statement deadlines are met per the organization's reporting requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Software and GAAP: Advanced proficiency in Excel, QuickBooks, and payroll systems (PayCor experience preferred). Strong understanding of GAAP, allocation methodologies, and government billing.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail, accuracy, and completeness of financial data
  • Financial Analysis: Strong analytic skills to interpret financial data, trends, and provide insight to CFO and Leadership.
  • Initiative: Expected to use considerable initiative, independent judgement and leadership when performing budget and accounting analyses
  • Commitment to Equity and Impact-Driven: Ability to align internal operations to advance All Neighbors Coalition racial equity goals, and a passion for our mission and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Three (3) years, or more, of experience in budget preparation, finance, accounting or a closely related field.

Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Teamwork oriented.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow through independently.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to make routine judgements and decisions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and relevant accounting experience preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid state issued driver's license and car insurance.
  • Please note that travel is required on a limited basis.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Must be flexible to work at different sites as scheduled.
  • Limited requirements, must be able to maintain files and lift objects that weigh up to 25 lbs.

WORK SCHEDULE:
โ€ข This position is currently 100% remote. Employees may work from any authorized location within the State of Texas. This role requires approximately 5% travel for quarterly in-person team meetings and annual company retreats. Please note that the remote work arrangement is subject to change based on business needs and organizational priorities.
COMPENSATION:
  • The salary for this position is $65,700 - $76,800
  • Housing Forward has a flexible PTO policy for all full-time employees. The office is officially closed on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, & Christmas Day. Housing Forward has MLK Jr., Juneteenth, and Election Day as Days of Service.
