Job description

Description

A&M Industrial is a family-owned industrial distributor that has been serving customers for nearly 70 years. Industrial distribution plays a critical role in keeping the economy moving, and A&M is proud to be an important part of that ecosystem. We partner with many of the world's leading manufacturers to provide metalworking, safety, MRO, material handling, and other industrial products to customers across a wide range of industries.

With a long history and a forward-looking mindset, A&M is helping carve the future of industrial distribution by combining trusted relationships, technical expertise, and customer service with technology, AI, data, and automation.

Position Summary

A&M Industrial is seeking a highly capable Strategy Manager to work closely with executive leadership to help shape the direction of the business, improve organizational effectiveness, and help translate strategic priorities into execution. This role will also manage the Purchasing function at A&M.

This is a high-impact, cross-functional role for someone who combines strong business judgment with a bias for action. The right candidate is highly focused and analytical, purposeful with their time, and knows how to create value by identifying what matters and driving meaningful outcomes. This person should be a leverage thinker - someone who understands ROI on time, eliminates low-value work, and helps the organization move faster and better.

This role will support strategic planning and execution across the business, while also heading up the purchasing function. It is ideal for someone who is comfortable operating across operations, purchasing, finance, data, systems, and process improvement, and who is excited about using AI and automation to transform how work gets done.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the COO and leadership team to identify, prioritize, and execute strategic initiatives across the business
  • Build AI tools and help drive automation across the organization
  • Lead the purchasing function, including oversight of team performance, priorities, workflows, and process improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve purchasing performance through better systems, data visibility, vendor management, and execution
  • Help transform the organization for the future across technology, operations, product/service offering and go-to-market strategy
  • Translate high-level goals into actionable plans, timelines, milestones, and accountability
  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional projects involving operations, purchasing, finance, data, systems, and commercial teams
  • Bring structure and follow-through to important initiatives that might otherwise stall due to competing priorities
  • Analyze business performance, identify gaps and opportunities, and help leadership make better decisions
  • Build business cases for change, evaluate ROI, and support implementation of new processes, technologies, and ways of working
  • Serve as a force multiplier for leadership by helping the organization stay aligned on the most important work

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; business, finance, software development, operations, engineering, mathematics, or related field preferred
  • 5-10 years of experience as an operator, at a start-up, in strategy, finance, consulting, software development or other highly analytical cross-functional roles
  • Experience managing a team preferred
  • Experience with strategic purchasing, Python and/or SQL preferred
  • Highly proficient with data analysis
  • Highly proficient with utilizing AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) to automate processes and enhance productivity
  • Experience driving initiatives across multiple business functions
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to keep priorities moving
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable working with data to support decisions and identify opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to improve processes and drive execution
  • Experience leading people or business functions is preferred
  • Exposure to purchasing, supply chain, distribution, or industrial businesses is helpful, but not required

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $125,000 - $150,000 annually (commensurate with experience) plus performance bonus
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and flexibility. This role is in-office three days a week.
  • Significant professional growth opportunities within a rapidly expanding company.
