Job description

About AfterQuery
AfterQuery builds the training data and evaluation infrastructure that frontier AI labs use to make their models better. We work with the world's leading labs to design high signal datasets and run rigorous evaluations that go beyond static benchmarks. We are a small, early team (post Series A) where individual contributors have a direct impact on how the next generation of models learn and improve.
The Role
Your job is to create visibility into our business and build the systems that scale with us. As our Finance & Operations Associate, you will own the financial and operational infrastructure of a fast-growing, early-stage company. This means managing our budget and cash flow, coordinating with external partners, building internal processes from scratch, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. You'll work directly with the founding team and touch every part of the business-finance, HR ops, legal coordination, vendor management, and more. This is a high-trust, high-impact role for someone who thrives on creating structure and process out of ambiguity.
What You'll Do
โ€ข Own and maintain the company's financial model, budget, and cash flow forecasts; support financing preparation with investor-ready reporting.
โ€ข Manage accounts payable/receivable, invoicing, and vendor payments.
โ€ข Coordinate with external accountants and legal counsel on bookkeeping, tax filings, and compliance.
โ€ข Build and improve internal operational processes-everything from onboarding new hires to managing software subscriptions and procurement.
โ€ข Support contract administration for customer and partner agreements (frontier AI labs), working alongside the sales and BD team.
โ€ข Track and report on key business metrics and KPIs to the founding team.
โ€ข Handle day-to-day team operations: benefits administration coordination, expense management, insurance, and office logistics.
โ€ข Serve as the operational backbone of a fast-moving team-identifying gaps, building lightweight systems, and keeping things running smoothly.
What We're Looking For
โ€ข 2-4 years of experience in finance, operations, or a hybrid role, ideally at a startup or high-growth tech company.
โ€ข Strong financial modeling and spreadsheet skills-comfortable building and maintaining budgets, forecasts, and cash flow models.
โ€ข Experience with core operational workflows: vendor management, procurement, billing/invoicing, and contract administration.
โ€ข Familiarity with accounting fundamentals (accrual vs. cash, revenue recognition basics)-someone who can partner effectively with external accountants or a fractional CFO.
โ€ข Highly organized and process-oriented, with a knack for building systems where none exist yet.
โ€ข Comfort with ambiguity and context-switching.
โ€ข A bias toward action and building over waiting for perfect information.
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Compensation Structure:
  • $120-150k base + bonus + equity
