Reports to: Program Officer

Salary Range: $49,400-52,000

Anticipated Start Date: August 10, 2026

Term of Employment: Full-time, non-exempt

Remote Eligible: Hybrid only, not remote. Per the terms of the award, staff member must be based in Washington, DC and available for in-person meetings at least weekly and other times as required by workflow.

World Learning seeks a Program Associate to support the implementation of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), the flagship professional exchange program of the U.S. Department of State. The Program Associate will work with a Program Officer and other partners to make programmatic and logistical arrangements for foreign professionals participating in the IVLP program.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to manage multiple tasks, work both independently and collaboratively, handle logistics and other arrangements with attention to detail, and communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of partners and stakeholders. An interest in working with people from other cultures, backgrounds, and abilities and a proactive, collaborative attitude are essential. This position provides an opportunity to engage with U.S. and international leaders in a range of fields, learn about key U.S. foreign policy issues, and help forge international partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the successful implementation of in-person, virtual, and hybrid exchange programs in support of U.S. foreign policy goals;
  • Arrange program logistics (air and ground travel, hotels, meeting venues, and virtual meetings);
  • Create and manage financial documents and processes, including invoices, expense reports, and budgets;
  • Conduct project briefings with participants on program arrangements;
  • Assist in the development of program itineraries and arrange professional appointments for participants;
  • Conduct research to support the preparation of programs;
  • Support the preparation of briefing books and program materials for participants;
  • Accompany participants, as required, to appointments; or facilitate on-site or virtual meetings for participants;
  • Supervise interns and support their professional development; and
  • Actively participate in activities to support team, organizational, and network-wide goals.

As members of World Learning's staff, program associates also have various opportunities for professional development, including skill-building workshops, shadowing sessions with internal and external entities, and brownbag lunches on various topics relevant to international education and exchange.

Requirements

Required Experience/Education:

  • A bachelor's degree and one year of professional experience; or three years of relevant professional experience
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the location where this position is offered.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with successfully managing multiple tasks at the same time, while meeting deadlines;
  • Demonstrated experience with organizing logistics for events or travel;
  • Strong attention to detail, including in written work and financial tasks;
  • Effective presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • An ability to problem-solve, work with responsibility, and make decisions in ambiguous situations;
  • Proficiency with technology platforms such as Microsoft 365 Suite, web conferencing platforms, and other cloud-based document management and online project management tools;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
