Job description

The Investment Management Development Program is a two-year rotational program that offers participants the opportunity to gain in depth investment management experience through completion of four rotations in Vanguard's Investment Management division. Participants will build a deep understanding of Vanguard's investment philosophy, knowledge of our products and services, and enhanced technical skills. Rotations may include Vanguard's Fixed Income Group, Global Equity, Quantitative and Strategic Equity, Investment Strategy Group, Portfolio Review Department, and Investment Management and Finance Risk.

Core Responsibilities

  • Completes rotation objectives across four investment focused business areas. Delivers high quality results for all projects and assignments during the course of each rotation; applies the overall department goals to accomplish specific project assignments.
  • Collects, and analyzes investment data from internal and external data sources, drawing inferences and presenting the data in clear and concise format.
  • Demonstrates high quality service to all inquiries, including internal and/or external clients, by providing thorough and accurate information in a timely manner. Utilizes excellent CRM skills to establish effective and productive relationships in order to gain and maintain trust and respect.
  • Participates in projects. Works with various stakeholders to determine scope, gather requirements and data, recommend and implement solutions. Works with appropriate parties to plan, schedule, coordinate and manage business activities required to deliver project solutions.
  • Takes ownership of personal and professional development through participation in program-initiated meetings and projects, attending all training sessions required by the program or rotational assignments and creating and maintaining a personal plan to track development and accomplishments throughout the year.
  • Develops a strong understanding of Vanguard's products, investment methodology, the industry, industry dynamics, and all relevant systems to complete projects as assigned.
  • Navigates investment management departments by building a comprehensive network of contacts that can be leveraged to complete assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrates accountability for issues by accepting ownership throughout the problem resolution process.
  • Develops a broad understanding of the Vanguard Divisions, strategies, and initiatives and a deep understanding of the IMG division.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

What it takes

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher required.
  • Open to all fields of study. Prior participants have studied Finance, Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science, among many others.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Adaptability, the ability to learn quickly, and take initiative
  • Passion for investment management
  • Results oriented with the ability to lead several priorities
  • Strong technical acumen is a plus, including data analytical, statistical, storytelling, and coding skills - but we offer many on the job learning opportunities as well.
