Job description

The Hopkins Bloomberg Center (HBC) is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance to support financial analysis and reporting, budget development and oversight, program planning and development, and provide administrative and operational leadership. This position reports to the Deputy Executive Director for Operations and will manage a Budget Analyst. The position plans and conducts complex studies to improve the operational and financial effectiveness of HBC. This role collaborates with stakeholders to improve the financial effectiveness of the designated area to ensure financial targets are met.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist and support the finance unit leader and administrative leaders with budget preparation and projections.
  • Assist and support the finance unit leader with planning and development of new programs including completion of business plans with cost analysis, resources and capital needs.
  • Recommend budget adjustments and other cost improvement measures.
  • Perform complex statistical, cost and financial analysis of financial reports and data, and prepare subsequent narrative analysis for management.
  • Responsible for accuracy and timeliness of consolidated financial statements and financial analyses.
  • Develop regular and ad hoc financial reports for forecasting, trending and results analysis.
  • Develop and participate in the development of reporting systems.
  • Perform complex statistical, cost, and financial analysis of data reported in various accounting systems.
  • Plan, review and conduct complex studies to determine cost of business activities.
  • Provide administrative leadership in the development of efficient and effective financial processes, procedures and policies.
  • Utilize knowledge and serve as a resource for others regarding the institution's financial accounting systems.
  • Directly supervise and/or indirectly oversee the work of finance staff in the unit and across the designated area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field.
  • Seven years of progressively responsible financial and administrative management experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
  • Professional experience in higher education.
