Position: Legal Assistant – Floater

Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

Plunkett Cooney, one of the Midwest's oldest and most respected law firms, is seeking a full-time Legal Assistant Floater to join our Bloomfield Hills office.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated legal assistant to provide high-level support to attorneys across multiple practice areas. This position is primarily based in our Bloomfield Hills office but may also provide remote support for our other regional office locations. The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining workflow continuity by covering assistants on vacations, leave of absence, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive legal administrative support to attorneys across multiple practice areas.
  • Manage document preparation, filing (electronic and paper), scheduling, and billing.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date case files and docketing records.
  • Answer phones, handle correspondence, and provide general administrative support.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local court rules, including e-filing and electronic docketing.
  • Work collaboratively with other assistants and firm staff to ensure seamless operations across offices.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you must:

  • Have 5 to 7 years of experience in a legal assistant role, with a strong background in litigation preferably in a law firm environment.
  • Possess experience in appellate law, corporate law, first- and third-party litigation, and estate planning (preferred).
  • Be proficient in legal document preparation, file and case management, scheduling, dictation, and billing procedures.
  • Have a working knowledge of electronic court filing systems and docketing software.
  • Be highly familiar with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and document management systems (preferably iManage).
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a deadline-driven environment.
