Ice Centre Learn to Skate Instructor

Position Type:ย  Part-time

General Summary

Under the supervision of the Learn to Skate Director and the Ice Centre Office Supervisor, this position is responsible for the instruction of our Learn to Skate group lessons using the Learn to Skate USA curriculum.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for teaching the fundamentals of ice skating in a group setting to all ages and ability levels.ย  Instruction must follow guidelines set by Learn to Skate USA.
  • Instructors will keep accurate records of their classes, follow all rink protocols and talk to parents as needed.
  • Instructors are responsible for keeping their classes moving and participating while maintaining the control and organization of the class in a safe manner.ย  ย 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Must be able to figure skate on ice.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other instructors and the general public.
  • Must have an excellent understanding and knowledge of the Learn to Skate USA curriculum and be able to demonstrate and provide effective exercises to assist the skaters with developing their skills for the different skating levels.

Work Environment/Physical Activities

  • Must be able to work in cold temperatures and be familiar with an ice rink setting.

Education/Experience

  • Must be at least 16 years old and some high school preferred.
  • Must provide a current Learn to Skate USA annual instructor membership and pass any other certifications that are required annually through Learn to Skate USA or USFS.
  • Must have passed minimum Pre-Juvenile FS, Pre-Bronze Dances or Adult Silver FS.
  • Prior coaching experience preferred.
