Job description

The Figma Research team is hiring a seasoned researcher to support Figma's Agentic Experiences, and actively shape and execute research to drive scale, tap new opportunities, and ensure Figma continues pushing innovation in design and production tooling. Because Figma is used by so many of the leading software companies around the world, you will be uniquely positioned to advance the state of how product development works across the entire industry.

This work sits at the center of one of the most consequential shifts in our industry: how designers and developers build software alongside AI. That means researching experiences where the output is nondeterministic and "did it work?" is a judgment call rather than a pass/fail, digging into questions about trust, verification, control, and how expectations change as what is possible changes. We are looking for someone energized by that ambiguity rather than waiting for it to resolve.
The ideal candidate brings a deep passion for research and strategy, pushing the envelope with AI led experiences, and laddering key user needs to critical product decisions and broader business impact. Partnering with Product, Design, and Engineering, you will tackle our highest impact problems, influencing company strategy for both the short- and long-term. You will own your problem space end to end and you will be expected to bring a point of view on product decisions.

This is a full time role that can be held from one of our US hubs or remotely in the United States.

What you'll do at Figma:
  • Help Figma grow and innovate by delivering strategic research and recommendations and materially influencing the vision and strategy for Figma's Agentic Experiences
  • Partner closely with product leaders to identify opportunities, generate strategy, and define success
  • Break down complex business challenges into clear research plans; own the end to end research process and leverage strong storytelling skills to deliver meaningful impact to Figma's businesses
  • Leverage your product mindset and storytelling chops to influence product roadmap
  • Move fluidly between multi-quarter strategic direction and specific, in-the-weeds recommendations a designer or PM can act on next week
  • Advocate for the role of Research as a strategic partner in the business process, and raise the craft bar around you through mentorship and the standards you set
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
  • 7+ years of experience in UX research or user insights at a high growth B2B SaaS company
  • Direct experience conducting research on AI-powered products and features, including evaluating experiences where there is no single correct output and a point of view on how users build (or lose) trust in them over time
  • A track record of owning significant research programs independently, including framing the question, choosing the approach, and driving the follow-through on product recommendations
  • Expertise in utilizing a variety of research methodologies, including both qualitative and quantitative techniques, to address product challenges spanning from opportunity identification, concept testing, to feature iterations.
  • Comfort with product telemetry and analytics: able to form a hypothesis from behavioral data and partner with data science as a peer rather than outsourcing the numbers
  • Demonstrated success in identifying assumptions that underpin key challenges, prioritizing the most critical assumptions, and creating right sized research approaches to test those critical assumptions.
  • A proven track record of gaining buy in from executive stakeholders and cross disciplinary partners, transcending mere research mechanics and findings to articulate a larger user story, and the "so what" to inspire action
  • Ability to balance speed and rigor, pivot directions, seek out new perspectives, receive feedback, and seek solutions in creative ways.
  • Ability to balance user research, strategy, business insights, team input, and intuition in decision-making processes
While it's not required, it's an added plus if you also have:
  • Experience researching design tooling, developer tools, creative software, or other products where the users are themselves building things
  • 2+ years in product design, user centric product management, product development, and/or front end engineering
  • Experience partnering with model or evaluation teams, and a view on how qualitative signal and offline evals inform one another
  • A familiarity and depth of experience using Figma's products
At Figma, one of our values is Grow as you go. We believe in hiring smart, curious people who are excited to learn and develop their skills. If you're excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with the points outlined in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
