Position Summary
VMG is seeking an experienced General Superintendent - Service Projects to provide leadership, oversight, and direction for our Service Projects Division. This position is responsible for managing field operations, supporting project execution, developing field personnel, and ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
The General Superintendent will work closely with Service Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Executive Leadership to coordinate manpower, maintain productivity, drive safety initiatives, and support profitable project delivery across multiple concurrent service and special projects.
This role is ideal for a seasoned field leader with a strong background in commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical construction who excels at building teams and driving operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Operations
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for Service Projects field operations.
  • Oversee multiple project sites simultaneously, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and Service Operations leaders to support successful project execution.
  • Monitor project manpower, productivity, labor utilization, and field performance.
  • Develop workforce plans to ensure projects are properly staffed and supported.
  • Assist in resolving field challenges, technical issues, and scheduling conflicts.
  • Conduct regular site visits to evaluate project progress, quality, and safety compliance.

Team Development
  • Mentor, coach, and develop Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel.
  • Identify future field leaders and support succession planning initiatives.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding field employees.
  • Support employee development through training, performance feedback, and career planning.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Safety & Quality
  • Champion VMG's safety culture and ensure compliance with all company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with the Safety Department to investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct jobsite audits, toolbox talks, and safety observations.
  • Ensure all work meets company quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Promote best practices in workmanship, planning, and execution.

Project Support
  • Review project schedules, labor forecasts, and resource requirements.
  • Assist with project planning, sequencing, and execution strategies.
  • Support project teams in identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Coordinate equipment, material deliveries, and field logistics.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings and operational planning sessions.
  • Provide input regarding labor productivity, scheduling, and field execution strategies.

Client Relations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, general contractors, facility managers, and trade partners.
  • Represent VMG professionally on project sites and during customer interactions.
  • Assist with resolving customer concerns and ensuring a positive client experience.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in commercial mechanical construction, HVAC, plumbing, piping, or service projects.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Superintendent, Senior Superintendent, or field leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems.
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects and field teams simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Experience with manpower planning, workforce development, and project coordination.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading service projects, tenant fit-outs, renovations, retrofits, equipment replacements, and special projects.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience working in healthcare, data center, government, higher education, hospitality, and commercial office environments.
  • Familiarity with Procore, ServiceTrade, ServiceTitan, Bluebeam, or similar platforms.
