About This Role:

The Field Engineering Services Division provides professional field services and technical support for the full range of Powersmiths and Socomec products. These services are delivered to a wide range of customers in power distribution, critical power markets, green and brown field buildings, and data centers. These market spaces are growing and are forecasted to grow substantially on a global scale. Powersmiths and Socomec have developed products and services specifically to serve these growing markets.

Field Service Technicians are responsible for the performance of professional and technical services at our client sites that may include transformer surveys and baseline measurements, system startup, commissioning, integrated system testing, preventive and planned maintenance, emergency repairs, etc. These services are performed on Powersmiths and Socomec products that include Low-Voltage Transformers, Power Distribution Units (PDU), Static Transfer Switches (STS), Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), Energy Storage Systems (ESS), and other devices and accessories.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

General Duties:

  • Maintain excellence in safety ensuring that all work is performed in a safe and professional manner;
  • Communicate, coordinate, and manage a complex schedule including arranging for travel and site access to highly secure environments (Military & Government facilities, sensitive banking, or other secure data centers, etc.).
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely performance of on-site activities and delivery of reports on time;
  • Work closely with client engineers, contractors, and other contacts to meet project requirements and ensure customer satisfaction;
  • Review and interpret work instructions, installation manuals, commissioning schedules and scripts, maintenance manuals, electrical drawings and one-line diagrams in order to accurately and safely execute work;
  • Coordinate with technical support and management teams to ensure timely escalation of issues;
  • Maintain a learning mindset to continuously improve knowledge and abilities needed to support Powersmiths and Socomec products and services.

Field Service Technician duties:

Field Service Technician I is an entry level position focused on skill building for successful progression to higher levels. Key duties of a Technician include:

  • Meet general duties above while under the supervision of senior technicians/mentors;
  • Learn and continuously apply safety policies and procedures to ensure safe completion of all activities;
  • Develop a thorough understanding of site transformer surveys, transformer measurement and verification, and energy savings calculations;
  • Learn how to identify and analyze constraints and onsite transformer configurations to assist in the design, configuration, and production of replacement transformers;
  • Prepare and submit site reports on a timely basis;
  • Complete classroom and field training for start-up, commissioning, preventive maintenance and basic troubleshooting of PDUs and small/medium UPS systems.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred or equivalent electrical or power electronics field experience or related military experience;
  • Strong understanding of, or willingness to learn and adhere to, health and safety regulations and protocols including OSHA 1910 and NFPA 70E;
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, electrical code, transformers, power electronics, PDU, UPS, energy storage systems (ESS), and static transfer switches (STS);
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver the highest level of customer service while working independently;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan travel, develop and execute complex scheduling of client site visits;
  • Strong knowledge of, or willingness to learn, the energy conservation market;
  • Ability to collect and synthesize information from multiple sources in order to execute a large and diverse number of projects, tasks and issues with professionalism and persistence;
  • Able to effectively represent Powersmiths and effectively communicate with clients, contractors, commissioning agents, and others at varying technical levels;
  • Ability to adhere to standards and ensure compliance with customers' specific requirements on each project;
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, managing and accurately completing multiple tasks within tight deadlines and in accordance with the project deliverables and customer requirements;
  • Able to obtain clearance to access schools and government installations; background checks and fingerprinting are required by customers on some projects;
  • Must be able to purchase airline tickets, rent vehicles, reserve lodging at own expense with full reimbursement on a monthly basis.

Working Conditions:

  • Field work (in electrical rooms, mechanical rooms, data centers, etc.) and home office or office environment;
  • Extensive travel nation-wide; occasional international travel (Canada, Europe, Asia, etc.);
  • Home based office.

Employment Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and background check. In addition, since this is a safety-sensitive role, ongoing or periodic drug testing and background checks may be required throughout employment in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Physical Demands:

  • Mobility: Ability to move about in various environments, including customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and office settings. This may involve standing, walking, climbing, bending, or kneeling for extended periods.
  • Stationary Work: Ability to remain in a stationary position, whether seated or standing, for prolonged periods when completing tasks such as diagnostics, repairs, or documentation.
  • Manual Dexterity: Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers for tasks such as wiring, equipment assembly, and tool handling.
  • Lifting and Carrying: Ability to lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
  • Visual and Auditory Requirements: Ability to read technical documents, diagrams, and computer screens, and to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Travel: Regular travel to customer sites is required, which may involve driving or other modes of transportation.

Compensation: $75,000-$80,000 USD

  • Position is salaried non-exempt.
