Summary:
The Application Development Scientist provides expertise on the programming and integration of liquid handlers with a thorough understanding of the software, hardware, features, and capabilities of the Revvity automation workstations. This expertise is applied toward the development and optimization of specific pre-programmed protocols (applications) that may be installed and run on various liquid handling workstations. The position involves working both independently and as part of a team that may include mechanical engineers, software engineers, biochemists and/or molecular biologists, commercial customers, and project managers.
The individual is expected to support the global Revvity automation business by expanding instrument capabilities, working as necessary with technical support to troubleshoot complex customer issues, and providing training and marketing material for new application capabilities that will be used to support the sales of automation instruments globally. Candidate should be detail-oriented, passionate and self-motivated individual who wants to make a difference in the field of innovative, next generation healthcare products.
The role is critical in driving the development and support of global field application specialists & the Revvity sales team. Working with key commercial entities, you will craft automation methods & workflows that will be disseminated globally, allowing Revvity specialist to support internal sales specialists and customers with novel and well annotated automation methods, allowing Revvity to continue to lead the field.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop user friendly, pre-programmed applications for the execution of complex sample preparation protocols that can be run by laboratory personnel with little/no experience running or programming liquid handlers.
  • Design and execute validation test plans including processing samples and generating run reports and application notes.
  • Program software add-ons that expand the capabilities of liquid handling workstations beyond the features and commands that are available in the released software and/or allow the integration of new tools with the liquid handling workstation.
  • Work with engineers and software developers to define requirements for instrument capabilities in order to support new types of applications.
  • Support new product development by designing and executing test protocols to ensure that new instruments meet user requirements and perform to specifications.
  • 10-20% travel to conferences and support Field Application Scientists and customers.
  • Assist in the writing of application notes and white papers related to automated liquid handling workflows.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field
  • 5-7 years of experience with automated lab workstations.
  • 2-3 years of liquid handling experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or PhD degree in Biology, Genomics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with Lua, VBScript, VBA, and C++ applications.
  • Ability to design, execute, and optimize experiments independently.
  • Experience with a range of molecular biology techniques including NGS sample preparation, nucleic acid purification, quantification, normalization, PCR/qPCR set up.
  • Laboratory experience with molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or related field with ability to independently follow experimental protocols and interpret/present results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Lab Automation Experience including liquid handling (preferably Revvity products), Liquid Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, nucleic acid extractions and general molecular biology laboratory techniques
  • Competency with Microsoft Office software
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
  • High level of commitment and initiative
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping practices

Physical Requirements & Expectations:
  • Physically capable of working in a laboratory environment
  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens as there is some work completed in the BSL2 lab.

Compensation Range:
The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 - 155,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.
