MVTec products are used in a wide variety of application areas, including the electrical and semiconductor industries, battery production, agriculture, the food industry and logistics. We work according to agile principles, break new ground together with our partners and customers, and develop our products with a great deal of passion.

If you share this passion, then we are looking for you as a full-time.

Field Application Engineer

Do you enjoy working with machine vision software and collaborating directly with customers? If so, you’ll feel right at home at MVTec. Our North American team supports customers in solving complex machine vision challenges using our HALCON and MERLIC software.

As we continue to grow our presence in North America, we are looking for an Application Engineer to join our team in the Greater Boston area.

Your tasks:
  • In this role, you will partner closely with customers to design and implement machine vision solutions using MVTec’s software platform.
  • As a key technical contact, you will act as a subject matter expert and guide customers in optimizing the performance and effectiveness of their applications.
  • In addition, you will contribute to software development projects and collaborate with internal teams on technical initiatives.
  • On a regular basis, you will deliver technical trainings and seminars for customers and partners, both remotely and on-site.
  • Working alongside the sales team, you will evaluate customer applications and conduct feasibility studies to support new business opportunities.
  • As part of the pre-sales process, you will present tailored demonstrations and confidently address technical questions from engineering audiences.
You require:
  • You hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, physics, electrical engineering, or a comparable technical discipline.
  • You bring at least five years of relevant professional experience to the role.
  • You bring proven experience in software development, including programming in languages such as C, C++, or .NET.
  • In your day-to-day work, you are comfortable operating in both Windows and Linux environments.
  • From a technical perspective, you have a strong understanding of image processing, deep learning, or closely related fields.
  • Furthermore, you are familiar with imaging components such as lighting, optics, cameras, and 3D sensors.
  • You have already gained hands‑on experience developing machine vision systems, particularly in factory automation contexts.
  • Experience with HALCON or MERLIC would be considered an additional advantage.
  • Finally, you are open to traveling up to approximately 25% as required.
Our offer:
  • Position: competitive salary and benefits package
  • Security: a successful, owner‑managed company, steered with professional expertise, foresight and attractive world‑class products which are deployed in a variety of sectors within a highly growing industry
  • Work‑life balance: time for family, friends and your hobbies thanks to hybrid working
  • Development: room for your own ideas and individual development opportunities, learning and progressing as part of a team through a variety of tasks
  • Culture: people come first, communication at eye level, innovative and open working atmosphere
  • Workplace: very well‑equipped workstations with height‑adjustable desks, up‑to‑date hardware and software
  • Infrastructure: Sub‑urban office space with light‑rail connection to Boston

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.

At this time, MVTec is not able to offer visa sponsorship or employment‑based immigration support for this position. Candidates must have current and ongoing authorization to work in the United States.
