Job description

The Fiber Spicer is primarily responsible for cable/enclosure prepping, fusion splicing, verification testing, troubleshooting and fiber optic cable repair. The Fiber Splicer will be required to review, create, and maintain splicing schematics and diagrams (Matrix). The candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate splicing and field notes along with supporting project timelines. They will also be performing end to end OTDR testing, analyzing test results for acceptable loss readings, and providing close out packages complete with pictures, formal loss results, and redlined schematic documentation.
  • Terminate, fusion splice and install a variety of fiber optic connectors and enclosures including both loose tube fiber and ribbon fiber up to an 288ct fiber cable.ย 
  • Maintains the security of the outside fiber plant (OSP) network, either aerial and/or underground throughout area of responsibility.ย 
  • Must be able to perform mid-sheath/ring cut/midspan entry on a cable without service interruption.ย  Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including traffic meters, fusion splicer, power meter, VFL and OTDR using EXFO Fast Reporter with IOLM Formatย 
  • Knowledge of applicable electronic equipment and specialty tools.ย 
  • Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber, effectively and efficiently.ย 
  • Must ensure that both he/she and all employees comply with proper safety standards/ procedures and work practices according to OSHA standards, Future Infrastructure and/or the customer, whichever standard is higher.ย 
  • Ability to read, understand and update spliceย 


  • Microsoft software experience including Power Point, Internet, e-mail, and database software as required.ย 
  • High School Diploma or equivalency, Fiber Optic Certification Training preferred, but not required.ย 
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Bilingual is a plus
  • Ability to organize and prioritize effectively
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Power Point
  • 1 -3 years fiber optic telecommunications experience required.ย 
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, be able to identify between colors.ย 
  • Valid Driver's License, acceptable driving record.ย 
  • Must be able to travel/overnight stays as required.ย
