Job description

The Fiber Splicer is responsible for installing, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber optic cable in aerial, underground, and inside plant environments. This role ensures fiber networks are built and maintained to company standards, client specifications, and industry best practices.


Key Responsibilities
  • Perform fiber optic splicing, including single-mode and multi-mode fiber

  • Read and interpret splice prints, construction drawings, and work orders

  • Prepare fiber cables for splicing by stripping, cleaving, and cleaning fibers

  • Perform fusion splicing and mechanical splicing as required

  • Test fiber using OTDR, power meter, and light source to ensure signal integrity

  • Troubleshoot and repair fiber faults, outages, and damaged cables

  • Install fiber enclosures, splice cases, patch panels, and cabinets

  • Label and document splices, fiber counts, and test results accurately

  • Maintain splice trailers, tools, and testing equipment

  • Follow all safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and company policies

  • Work closely with construction crews, engineers, and project managers

  • Complete daily reports and as-built documentation

Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience as a Fiber Splicer or similar telecom role (preferred)

  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic cable types, splicing methods, and testing procedures

  • Experience with aerial, underground, and inside plant fiber (OSP/ISP)

  • Ability to read fiber maps, splice diagrams, and construction prints

  • Proficiency with fusion splicers and test equipment (OTDR, power meter)

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Certifications
  • CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician)

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

  • Manufacturer-specific splicing or testing certifications

Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Ability to climb ladders and work in aerial environments (when applicable)

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

  • Willingness to work overtime, on-call shifts, and emergency restorations
