Department: Production (Fermentation)

Positions Supervised: None

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (min 40 hrs, weekend and evening work will be expected, as needed)

Reports to: Fermentation Supervisor


GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB
The Fermentation Operator I performs and reports on operational related activities and utilized technical skills to perform routine work using standard operating procedures related to food grade bacteria culture production.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following statements reflect the general details necessary to describe the major functions of this position and are not intended to be a detailed description of all the work/functions that may be required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Has the ability to physically perform and complete necessary documentation for the following tasks:
    1. Weigh media and cryoprotectant for production batches.
    2. Perform pelletization.
    3. Clean rooms and equipment for production, excluding CIP/SIP of large equipment.
    4. Ability to properly fill out room logs.
    5. Understands how to navigate the HMI in order to see what status equipment is currently in.
    6. Make media for INLA and fermenters.
    7. Make cryoprotectant.
    8. Use autoclave to sterilize equipment/media.
    9. Perform all master sanitation tasks associated with department.
  • Follows operating discipline policies, principles, procedures, standards, and practices to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of assigned areas
  • Proactively identifies improvements and opportunities utilizing improvement processes, appropriate management of change processes, and communication tools
  • Perform sanitation duties per established frequency and procedures
  • Comply with plant safety rules and maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), preferred

7 days on, 7 days off. Tuesday - Monday.
